TVS Motor surpasses 1 million Electric Scooter sales milestone in India

The company has crossed 1 million electric scooter sales in India, powered by the success of the TVS iQube and the newly launched Orbiter. With more than 219,000 units sold already in 2026 and a market share of 26%, TVS continues to strengthen its position as a leader in India's rapidly growing electric two-wheeler market.

TVS Motor Company has crossed the landmark one-million electric scooter retail sales milestone in India, becoming only the second electric two-wheeler manufacturer in the country to achieve the feat after Ola Electric.

According to Vahan registration data as of June 11, 2026, the Chennai-based manufacturer has cumulatively retailed 10,04,148 electric scooters, comprising the popular TVS iQube and the recently introduced TVS Orbiter, in the domestic market.

From Slow Start to Market Leadership

TVS launched the iQube in January 2020 and initially experienced gradual growth. The first 100,000 retail sales took more than three years to achieve. However, as India’s electric two-wheeler market accelerated, TVS significantly increased its momentum, adding the next 100,000 units in just 10 months.

The company crossed the 300,000-unit sales milestone in early April 2024, approximately 52 months after launch. Growth accelerated dramatically thereafter, with sales rising from 300,000 to 700,000 units in only 17 months. The subsequent jump from 700,000 to 800,000 units was achieved in just three months between October and December 2025.

Strongest Market Share Yet in 2026

TVS has steadily strengthened its position in India’s electric two-wheeler market. The company’s market share touched 20% in CY2023 and has climbed further to around 26% in CY2026 year-to-date, its highest-ever share.

While the iQube continues to account for the majority of sales, the newly launched Orbiter has also begun contributing meaningfully to the company’s growth trajectory.

Record-Breaking Sales Momentum

The first half of 2026 has been particularly strong for TVS. Between January 1 and June 11, the company retailed 219,232 electric scooters, with the latest 100,000-unit milestone achieved in just 75 days.

This translates into an average of approximately 1,333 electric scooters sold every day between March 28 and June 10, highlighting the growing acceptance of TVS’s electric mobility offerings.

The company also recorded its highest-ever monthly sales in May 2026, delivering 51,605 units. This performance ranks as the second-highest monthly sales volume ever recorded by an Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer, behind Ola Electric’s record of 53,647 units in May 2024.

Having first topped monthly electric two-wheeler sales charts in April 2025, TVS continues to maintain its lead over competitors including Bajaj Auto, Ather Energy, Ola Electric and Greaves Electric Mobility.

Driving India’s Electric Two-Wheeler Growth

TVS Motor has emerged as one of the key contributors to the rapid expansion of India’s electric two-wheeler industry. Alongside Bajaj Auto, the company has played a significant role in scaling volumes within a market that now includes more than 175 manufacturers.

The transformation of the segment has been remarkable. From just 1,516 electric two-wheelers sold a decade ago, representing a negligible 0.008% share of India’s overall two-wheeler market, the category has evolved into one of the country’s fastest-growing mobility segments.

Between January and June 10, 2026, electric two-wheeler sales reached 837,961 units, reflecting a robust 63% year-on-year growth. Electric two-wheelers now account for 8.26% of India’s total two-wheeler sales, which stood at over 10.14 million units during the same period.

Electric two-wheelers continue to dominate India’s EV ecosystem, contributing 63% of total EV sales in CY2026 year-to-date, ahead of electric three-wheelers (27%), passenger EVs (9%) and electric commercial vehicles (1%).

TVS’s Rapid Rise

TVS’s market share has expanded significantly since entering the segment. From selling just 234 units in CY2020, representing a 1% market share, the company increased its share to 8% in CY2022 with sales of 50,181 units.

The breakthrough came in CY2023 and CY2024 when TVS captured a 20% market share, recording sales of 177,024 units and 237,096 units respectively.

CY2025 proved to be a defining year for the company. TVS retailed 315,083 electric scooters, became the industry’s leading player from April onwards, and contributed to the electric two-wheeler market’s record annual sales of 1.34 million units.

During the same year, Bajaj Auto secured second place with 279,682 units, followed by Ather Energy with 214,982 units. Ola Electric retailed 204,514 units, while Hero Vida and Greaves Electric Mobility recorded sales of 113,023 units and 57,851 units respectively.

Half-Million Sales Milestone Within Reach

With 219,232 electric scooters already sold in the first five months and 10 days of 2026, TVS has achieved nearly 70% of its total CY2025 sales volume.

At its current daily sales run rate of approximately 1,361 units, the company is well-positioned to achieve a new milestone of 500,000 annual electric scooter sales in CY2026.

Supported by rising consumer demand, increasing fuel prices, expanding EV infrastructure, and upcoming festive-season sales, TVS Motor appears set for another record-breaking year as India’s electric two-wheeler market continues its rapid growth trajectory.
