Honda Accord celebrates 50 years with special exhibit, anniversary merchandise and tribute video

Since its debut in 1976, the Accord has become one of Honda’s most successful and globally recognized models, with over 25 million units sold worldwide.

Honda is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Accord, one of its most iconic global models, marking five decades since the debut of the first-generation Accord in 1976. To commemorate the milestone, Honda has announced a series of special programs including a dedicated exhibit at the Honda Collection Hall, exclusive anniversary merchandise and a commemorative video retracing the evolution of the Accord through the years.

The special exhibit will be hosted at the Honda Collection Hall located within Mobility Resort Motegi in Japan and will remain open through June 30. The showcase features historic Accord models alongside panels highlighting the development and technological evolution of each generation.

Since its launch nearly five decades ago, the Accord has played a major role in Honda’s global expansion strategy. Originally developed with international markets in mind, the first-generation Accord was exported to the United States soon after launch. In 1982, Honda became the first Japanese automaker to manufacture vehicles in the United States, with the Accord emerging as one of the company’s most important global products.

Over the years, the Accord expanded its presence across North America, Asia, and Europe while earning widespread recognition in multiple markets. Several generations of the model received prestigious industry awards, including the Japan Car of the Year title and the North American Car of the Year award.

The Accord has also served as a platform for multiple technological innovations. From the introduction of the CVCC engine in the first-generation model to advanced features such as the world’s first in-car navigation system and the latest Honda SENSING 360+ safety technologies, the sedan has consistently evolved in terms of environmental performance, safety, comfort, and driving dynamics.

Honda says more than 25 million Accord units have been sold across over 160 countries and regions globally, making it one of the brand’s most successful nameplates.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, Honda will also release limited-edition merchandise inspired by the first-generation Accord. The collection includes T-shirts, mugs, caps, and keyholders featuring special 50th anniversary branding. Additionally, Honda has partnered with Kyoto-based leather accessories brand COTOCUL to create premium leather products made from recycled Accord seat cover materials.

Honda will further commemorate the milestone with a special anniversary video and an in-depth feature article exploring the history and legacy of the Accord. The video and related content are scheduled to be released on Honda’s official website and social media channels on May 26.
