BMW India has opened bookings for the first-ever BMW i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB), marking a significant step in the company’s electric vehicle expansion in India. The new electric luxury sedan will be locally produced at BMW Group Plant Chennai, making it the brand’s first locally manufactured electric sedan and its second locally produced electric vehicle in the country.
Bookings are now open through BMW India’s authorised dealer network, while customers can also register their interest through the company’s official website.
The BMW i5 Long Wheelbase combines the executive luxury of the 5 Series with an all-electric powertrain and an extended wheelbase focused on rear-seat comfort.
Measuring 5,175 mm in length, 2,156 mm in width and 1,520 mm in height, the i5 LWB is positioned as the largest and longest sedan in its segment. Its 3,105 mm wheelbase provides additional cabin space, particularly for rear passengers.
BMW says the i5 LWB offers the most spacious rear cabin in its segment, making it particularly suited to customers who prioritise comfort and luxury while travelling in the rear seat.
The BMW i5 LWB is powered by an electric motor producing 268 hp, enabling the luxury sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.Power comes from an 81.6 kWh high-voltage battery, with the electric sedan offering a claimed range of up to 669 km (MIDC) on a single charge.
To suit Indian driving conditions, the i5 LWB is equipped with adaptive rear-axle air suspension and enhanced ground clearance. These features are designed to improve ride comfort and stability across a variety of road conditions while retaining BMW’s characteristic driving dynamics.
To mark the introduction of the new electric sedan, BMW India will offer an exclusive BMW i5 LWB First Edition, limited to just 99 customers.
The First Edition receives a dedicated rear-seat entertainment package that includes a tablet and tablet holder. The cabin also features BMW Individual Silver Bronze accents, Fineline open-pored fine-wood trim and a Silver Bronze inlay.
A ‘FIRST EDITION’ laser engraving on the dashboard trim further distinguishes the limited-run model.
The exterior is finished in Carbon Black Metallic, complemented by Titanium Bronze exterior accents, giving the First Edition a distinctive appearance.
The BMW i5 Long Wheelbase represents another important milestone in BMW India’s electrification strategy. With local production at the Chennai plant, the model becomes the company’s first locally manufactured electric sedan in India while expanding the availability of premium electric vehicles in the country.
