New Defender Octa debuts in India: The ultimate blend of Strength, Capability, and Luxury

The New Defender OCTA is the most dynamically advanced, capable, and luxurious Defender ever, designed for extreme performance on and off-road.

Land Rover has introduced the New Defender OCTA in India, marking the arrival of the toughest, most capable, and most luxurious SUV in the legendary Defender lineup. This high-performance adventure icon is designed to tackle any terrain with unmatched confidence and sophistication.

Powered by a 4.4 l Twin Turbo mild-hybrid V8 engine, the OCTA model is the most extreme and most powerful Defender ever, with 467 kW and up to 750 Nm1 of torque enabling 0-100 km/h in 4.0 seconds. Heavily revised chassis components with innovative technologies, including 6D Dynamics suspension, ensure its dynamic capabilities are taken to new heights.

The exterior is bolder and tougher than ever, with a distinct character. The ride height is raised, its stance widened, and wheel arches extended for incredible presence. Redesigned bumpers give improved approach and departure angles, while tough underbody protection gives drivers the confidence to explore further over rough terrain. And, it will wade deeper than any production Defender before it too – through up to one metre of water.

Rajan Amba, Managing Director, JLR India, said: “Defender has been a game-changer for us in India, emerging as not only our best-selling model but also the highest-selling model in its category, with stupendous growth in demand since its launch. This iconic vehicle has built an unshakeable brand equity in the market, resonating deeply with clientele who value its unmatched capability, luxury, and adventure. Today, with the launch of Defender OCTA, we are introducing the toughest and the most durable model in the Defender family, that takes luxury and high-performance capability to another level. With the New Defender OCTA, we are offering a vehicle that is not only capable of conquering the most challenging terrains but also delivering a premium driving experience.”

New Defender OCTA’s name is derived from the toughest and most desirable mineral on earth – a diamond – and the octahedral shape that gives their distinctive appearance and durability. This shape also inspired the new signature graphic, which denotes it as the flagship Defender – strong and resilient, yet striking, rare and desirable.

Every Defender OCTA wears a new encircled diamond graphic, including a gloss black diamond within a machined and sandblasted titanium disc on each Signature Graphic panel.

The tough luxury of Defender OCTA is epitomised by Defender OCTA Edition One, which is available in the first year of production. It features a curated specification, finished in an exclusive new Faroe Green paint colour with a Khaki and Ebony UltrafabricsTM PU and seam-less Knit interior, new Chopped Carbon Fibre detailing, and 20-inch forged alloy wheels.

The New Defender OCTA introduces advanced 6D Dynamics suspension, a first for Defender, enhancing both off-road capability and on-road performance. It features a 28 mm higher ride height, a 68 mm wider stance, and upgraded suspension components, including longer wishbones and active dampers. With 400 mm front brake discs, Brembo calipers, and the fastest steering ratio in Defender history, it delivers exceptional control, stability, and precision across all terrains.

The New Defender OCTA introduces OCTA Mode, its first performance-focused off-road setting. Designed for enhanced traction, braking, and acceleration on loose surfaces, it features unique interior illumination, an engaging exhaust note, and optimized gearshifts and steering. The system adapts suspension firmness based on terrain, while Off-Road Launch ensures optimal acceleration, and a specialized Off-Road ABS calibration improves braking on loose surfaces. This mode enhances confidence and control on challenging terrain.

The Defender OCTA boasts a bold, all-terrain-ready design with 33-inch tyres, the largest ever on a production Defender, complemented by extended wheel arches and off-road-optimized front bodywork. It features a new grille design for improved airflow, a rear bumper with a four-exit active exhaust, and tough underbody protection with Phosphor Bronze-finished recovery points.

Its exclusive color palette includes Petra Copper and Faroe Green, alongside Carpathian Grey and Charente Grey, all paired with a gloss Narvik Black contrast roof and tailgate. Optional Matte Protective Film adds durability and a premium look. The Defender OCTA Edition One uniquely features Faroe Green and Chopped Carbon Fibre detailing with recycled materials for a distinctive finish inside and out.

The New Defender OCTA offers a refined and immersive interior with curated materials and advanced technology. It features durable Ultrafabrics™ PU upholstery, 30% lighter than leather, in duo-tone Khaki and Ebony for the OCTA Edition One, while the standard OCTA comes with Burnt Sienna semi-aniline leather and Kvadrat™ textile trim. Other options include Light Cloud & Lunar Ultrafabrics™ PU or Ebony semi-aniline leather.

New Performance Seats with enhanced bolsters and integrated headrests ensure superior comfort, while the Body and Soul Seat audio system—a first for Defender—uses SUBPAC™ AI technology to create a multi-sensory sound experience with vibrations.
