Ratan Tata conferred with Australia’s highest civilian honour

Industrialist Ratan Tata was awarded Australia's highest civilian honour for his efforts in strengthening India-Australia bilateral relations.

Ratan Tata, the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, has been awarded the Order of Australia (AO), which is Australia’s highest civilian honour. The announcement was made by Australia’s High Commissioner to India, Barry O’Farrell.

The award was given to Tata in recognition of his contributions towards strengthening the bilateral relations between India and Australia. Tata has been a strong supporter of the 2022 India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is said to have the largest workforce of any Indian company in Australia, with around 17,000 employees.

The commissioner wrote that Mr Tata’s contributions have had a significant impact in his country and he was delighted to confer the honour in recognition of Mr. Tata’s commitment in building India-Australia relationship.

The Indian industrialist last month, was appointed to the post of Honorary Officer in a department of the Order off Australia (AO) for his contribution towards building the bilateral ties between India and Australia with trade, investment and philanthropy activities.

85-year-old Ratan Tata served as the chairman of the Tata group for almost 20 years. Tata Group was founded by late industrialist Jamsetji Tata in 1880’s, it has been ranking as one of India’s largest multinational conglomerates.

Ratan Tata, is a pioneer Indian businessman and Industrialist who has worked really hard to take the Tata legacy towards the path of success. Known for his humility, Mr. Tata is loved and hailed by all sections of the society. His contribution towards the society has marked a remarkable presence of him inside the heart of millions across the nation. It is reportedly said that he donates 90% of his wealth towards charity.

Apart from this honour, Ratan Tata in the past also has been conferred with many civilian honours, in 2008 he was awarded Padma Vibhushan- the second ranking civilian honour of India. He was also awarded with Padma Bhushan and other high ranking awards from different state governments as his business has its footprints all across India.
