Electric passenger vehicle (PV) retail sales in India surged 94.56% year-on-year (YoY) to 36,108 units in September 2026, compared with 18,559 units in the same month last year, according to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).
On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, electric PV retail sales increased 17.63% from 30,696 units in August 2026. The strong growth pushed electric passenger vehicle penetration to 8.5% in September 2026, compared with 7.6% in August 2026 and 5.7% in September 2025.
FADA attributed the growth to early festive-season momentum, a wider range of electric vehicles from mass-market automakers and increasing consumer acceptance of EVs.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles retained its position as the leading electric PV manufacturer, recording retail sales of 14,791 units in September 2026. This represented a 100.72% YoY increase from 7,369 units in September 2025 and a 12.41% MoM rise over 13,158 units in August 2026.
