India needs to leapfrog to electric mobility and I feel there will be no internal combustion powered two-wheeler or three-wheelers in the country as they all will move to electric vehicles, Amitabh Kant, Niti Aayog CEO, said on Friday 3rd December.
Kant pointed out that the market dynamics and technology disruptions will ensure the cost parity of electric vehicles to internal combustion vehicles. “One thing is very clear that at the speed at which the cost of batteries are falling from $1,100/KW hour to about $100…” he said.
Kant was addressing a first of its kind round table conference witnessing close coordination among state and central government and industries. He pointed out that the Indian manufacturers have impeccable ability to leapfrog. He feels the falling battery price will help achieve the target.
The round table organised by the ministry of heavy industries witnessed the presence of transport ministers from states and UTs from across the country, Chief minister of Goa Pramod Sawant, Union Minister of Heavy Industries Mahendra Nath and others.
