New-Gen Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB revealed ahead of India launch

The new-generation E-Class Long Wheelbase offers advanced technology and is set to launch in the Indian market in 2024.

Mercedes-Benz has introduced the latest iteration of the E-Class Long Wheelbase (LWB) in China, providing enhanced legroom and comfort for this well-loved luxury sedan. In April this year, the sixth-gen E-Class was unveiled for all markets whereas the soon-to-be-launched E-Class LWB version will only be offered in a few. The long-wheelbase E-Class is already sold by the brand in India, hence this version is more relevant to our domestic market. In fact, India is the first country with a right-hand drive market to receive the E-Class LWB model. The luxury saloon also has more legroom, knee room, and overall comfort.

One of the standout aspects of this specific model is its enhanced dimensions. The 2024 iteration of the E-Class LWB from Mercedes-Benz measures 5,092 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,493 mm in height, with a 3,094 mm wheelbase. Compared to the previous-gen model, it is 20 mm wider and 18 mm longer, with nearly all the length boost of 18 mm coming from a 15 mm longer wheelbase.

Design: Speaking of the design, the E-Class LWB has a similar appearance to the standard version, apart from an extended rear door and a quarter glass that is placed behind the rear door rather than being integrated into it with the rear window. Besides this, it sports a redesigned front bumper with substantial air intakes, a wide grille, sharp headlamps, and a typical Mercedes-Benz look overall. Moving to the rear end, you will notice exterior elements such as a revamped bumper, sleek and elegant LED taillights, as well as multi-spoke alloy wheels.

Interior Features: The LWB E-Class’s cabin is comparable to that of the standard E-Class. Power reclining rear seats with an ottoman function are among the many feature options available for the vehicle that made its debut in China. The rear headrests of the sedan have a neck heating feature and a “Boss” button that allows the passenger in the back seat to move and fold the front passenger seat for additional space. The car also has an ambient lighting system that wraps around the back seats. Additionally, a wireless charging pad for two phones is added to the back centre armrest.

The Super screen, which has three integrated screens – a 12.2-inch digital console, a 14.4-inch infotainment system, and a third screen for the passenger – is a well-known component. Having said that, it remains to be seen if this feature will be available in India. The third generation MBUX operating system is a major technological advancement for the new E-Class. Interestingly, the international version of the model automates various comfort-related features using AI.

Powertrain and Transmission Options: The six-cylinder petrol engine for the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB will be offered in China, whilst the six-cylinder diesel, specifically the 350d, is expected to be the main option for our country. Apart from these, the manufacturer is also going to provide a four-cylinder petrol engine and, on lower-spec variants, a four-cylinder diesel, both of which are most likely to arrive in India. The E-Class LWB has air suspension and a rear-wheel steering system that allows for a maximum turn of 4.5 degrees of the rear wheels.

Expected Price and India Launch Details: The E-Class has grown to be a very significant product in the Indian lineup of the carmaker. It further remains among the top sellers for the brand. In our home market, the price range for the E-class stands between Rs 75 lakh and Rs 88 lakh. In the second half of 2024, the new-generation E-Class LWB is certain to make its way to Indian shores. Upon its launch here, you can expect the LWB variant of the sedan to set you back by Rs 1 crore. Mentioned figures are ex-showroom.
