Takashi Nakajima appointed as HCIL’s new President & CEO, effective April 1, 2025

Mr. Nakajima will take over from Mr. Takuya Tsumura, who will return to Honda’s headquarters in Japan upon completing his tenure in India.

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has announced the appointment of Mr. Takashi Nakajima as the new President & CEO of Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL), effective April 1, 2025. This leadership change is part of Honda’s annual management transitions.

Mr. Nakajima will succeed Mr. Takuya Tsumura, who will return to Honda’s headquarters in Japan after completing his tenure in India.

During his successful three-year tenure in India, Mr. Takuya Tsumura played a pivotal role in strengthening Honda’s premium brand positioning, enhancing customer-centric solutions, and driving profitable growth. He led the introduction of several key models, including India’s first mainstream hybrid, the Honda City e:HEV, the global SUV Elevate, and the all-new third-generation Amaze. He also laid the groundwork for future launches, including Honda’s first Battery Electric Vehicle for India.

Under his leadership, HCIL significantly expanded its export business, with the Made-in-India Elevate being shipped to Japan. His strategic focus on modern communication led to integrated marketing campaigns targeting diverse consumer segments. Additionally, he prioritized operational efficiencies at both company and dealership levels, spearheading initiatives to improve customer experience and enhance dealer profitability.

Mr. Takashi Nakajima joined Honda in 1994 and has been associated with Honda Motor Co. Ltd. for more than 30 years. He has gained vast experience having worked in various positions of responsibility in several international markets like Japan, China, Spain, Czech Republic and Russia in the areas of Business Planning, Product Planning, Marketing and Sales Promotion. He has been serving as President of Honda Motor Russia since 2021. During his latest assignment, he was also in-charge of Product Planning, Marketing and Corporate Communication for Honda’s automobile business in domestic Japan Market.
