Auto industry leaders Girish Wagh, Tapan Sahoo, K Subramanian inducted as INAE Fellows

INAE recognises engineers, academicians, and leaders for their contributions in various fields of engineering and science under various disciplines.

Engineer-leaders from the Indian automotive industry Girish Wagh – Executive Director, Tata Motors, Dr Tapan Sahoo, Executive Director — Engineering, Maruti Suzuki India, and Dr K Subramanian, Senior Vice President — Advanced Engineering, Ashok Leyland, have been inducted as Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) Fellows, for their significant contribution to automotive industry and the field of engineering and technology development.

Prof Indranil Manna, President (INAE) and Vice Chancellor of BITS, Mesra administered the oath in the recently concluded Annual Convention 2023 held in Bhubaneshwar. The conferral ceremony took place on December 11, the concluding day of the INAE Annual Convention.

INAE recognises engineers, academicians, and leaders for their contributions in various fields of engineering and science under various disciplines. Wagh has been inducted as a Fellow, under the section of ‘Interdisciplinary and Special Engineering Fields and Leadership in Academia, R&D and Industry’, while Dr. Sahoo and Dr. Subramanian were inducted under the sections of Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering respectively.

Engineer-leaders and academicians from other sectors to be inducted as INAE Fellows include Prof T G Sitharam, Chairman, All India Council of Technical Education, Satya Nadella, Chairman & CEO, Microsoft, K Kirthivasan, CEO, TCS, Prof. Balaraman Ravindran, Professor & Head, Robert Bosch Centre for Data Science & AI, IIT Madras.

Chetan Maini, Co-founder and Vice-Chairman, Sun Mobility, and a pioneer of electric mobility in India, is among the previous Fellows of INAE. It is learnt that the total number of auto industry professionals inducted as INAE Fellow is in single digit so far. A total of 48 industry professionals and academicians were inducted as INAE Fellows this year.

Eminent engineer-leaders from other sectors, and academicians to be inducted as INAE Fellows include Prof T G Sitharam, Chairman, All India Council of Technical Education, Satya Nadella, Chairman & CEO, Microsoft, K Kirthivasan, CEO, TCS, Prof. Balaraman Ravindran, Professor & Head, Robert Bosch Centre for Data Science & AI, IIT Madras.

The Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), founded in 1987 comprises India’s most distinguished engineers, engineer-scientists and technologists covering the entire spectrum of engineering disciplines. INAE functions as an apex body and promotes the practice of engineering & technology and the related sciences for their application to solving problems of national importance.

The Academy also provides a forum for futuristic planning for a country’s development requiring engineering and technological inputs and brings together specialists from such fields as may be necessary for comprehensive solutions to the needs of the country.
