The Union Cabinet of India, on 25 October, 2023, approved the memorandum of cooperation (MoC) between India and Japan on developing a semiconductor supply chain partnership.
The MoC was signed in July 2023 between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Republic of India and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan. The MoC will be effective from the date of signing the agreement between these parties and would remain in force for five years.
Moreover, the MoC seeks to strengthen cooperation between India and Japan to enhance the semiconductor supply chain, recognizing its importance for the advancement of industries and digital technologies.
Apart from the US, Japan has become the second Quad partner to sign an agreement with India for the joint development of the semiconductor ecosystem and maintain the resilience of its global supply chain.
The India-Japan Digital Partnership (IJDP) was launched in October 2018 to boost cooperation and new initiatives within the scope of cooperation in science and technology and information and communications technologies.
