Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has reiterated its commitment to environmental health and sustainable development on the occasion of World Environment Health Day. Aligned with the Toyota Earth Charter and Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, the company has achieved 100% renewable electricity for its manufacturing operations since FY2021, helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its operations.
TKM continues to strengthen its environmental initiatives through energy-efficiency measures driven by Kaizen, the adoption of advanced technologies and the use of cleaner fuel alternatives such as Compressed Biogas (CBG).
Through these initiatives, the company aims to further improve resource efficiency, reduce its environmental footprint and support the transition towards more sustainable manufacturing practices.
Water stewardship is a cornerstone of TKM’s sustainability journey. Through advanced wastewater treatment and recycling systems, the company meets approximately 90% of its total manufacturing water requirements through recycled water, significantly lowering dependence on shared community resources. The newly established Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) facility is designed to improve water recovery efficiency and further reduce freshwater consumption. TKM’s commitment to environmental health also extends to supplier engagement through Green Purchasing Guidelines and decarbonization initiatives, ensuring sustainability across the entire value chain.
Biodiversity conservation remains an equally important priority. The company has planted more than 320,000 saplings within its premises and documented approximately 790 floral species and 490 faunal species on campus. TKM has also extended its commitment beyond plant boundaries through afforestation initiatives at Bannerghatta National Park and the Police Training Centre, Channapatna. Environmental awareness programmes and eco-zone learning initiatives have spread sustainability consciousness among thousands of students, employees, and community members.
