BMW Group India achieves record car sales in CY2024: 15,721 units, 11% growth

BMW Group's Luxury Class achieves record deliveries, with the 7 Series leading its segment and the X7 topping Luxury Class sales. The company dominates India's luxury electric car market for the third consecutive year, with the iX as the top-selling luxury EV and the i7 leading its class. Sports Activity Vehicles (SAVs) see a 16% growth, with the X5 recording its highest annual sales and the X1 as the best-selling SAV.

BMW Group India has reached a new milestone, recording its best-ever annual car deliveries with an impressive 11% growth in 2024. The company delivered a total of 15,721 cars (BMW and MINI) and 8,301 motorcycles (BMW Motorrad) from January to December. BMW sold 15,012 units, while MINI contributed 709 units to the total.

In Q4 alone, BMW achieved its highest-ever quarterly sales with 4,958 units, marking a 15% increase. December sales were also a record high, with 2,244 units sold, reflecting a 17% growth.

BMW India 2024 Performance Summary:

  • Luxury Class: BMW’s Luxury Class (BMW 7 Series, i7, X7, XM) achieved record sales of 2,507 units (+8%). The BMW X7 was the top-seller with 1,570 units (+4%), while the BMW 7 Series saw a 15% increase with 865 units sold.
  • Electric Vehicles (EVs): BMW Group India maintained its lead in the luxury EV segment for the third year. In 2024, 1,249 electric BMW and MINI cars were delivered, with the BMW i7 being the best-seller at 384 units. BMW crossed 3,000 cumulative EV deliveries, and the BMW iX remained the most popular luxury EV in India, with over 1,100 units sold.
  • Sports Activity Vehicles (SAV): SAVs made up 56% of BMW’s sales, totaling 8,351 units (+16%). The BMW X5 achieved its highest-ever sales at 2,056 units (+89%), and the BMW X1 led the compact SAV segment.
  • Long Wheelbase Range: Demand for BMW’s long wheelbase models (3 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series) was strong, with the BMW 3 Series being the top-selling sedan. The BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase saw over 1,000 deliveries within six months of its launch.
  • BMW M: BMW M launched eight new models, with deliveries reaching 875 units. The BMW M340i was the highest-selling M model, with over 1,000 units sold since its introduction.
  • MINI: MINI delivered 709 units, with the MINI 3-Door Cooper S achieving its best sales at 250 units (+77%).
  • BMW Motorrad: BMW Motorrad delivered 8,301 motorcycles, achieving its best half-year sales (4,687 units, +14%) and record annual sales for its CBU bike portfolio at 1,041 units.
  • BMW and MINI 360° Finance Plan: A quarter of all cars financed through BMW India Financial Services use the 360° finance plan, offering low instalments, assured buy-back, and upgrade options.

BMW Group leads luxury EV market in India

For the third consecutive year, BMW Group India has maintained its top position in the luxury electric vehicle (EV) market. In 2024, the company delivered 1,249 fully electric BMW and Mini vehicles. The BMW i7 emerged as the best-selling EV in its class, with 384 units sold.

BMW Group India has surpassed a significant milestone, with total EV sales exceeding 3,000 units, making it the first luxury car manufacturer in India to achieve this feat. The BMW iX is the most popular luxury EV in the country, with over 1,100 units sold to date. The company currently offers a range of six electric cars, including the BMW i7, iX, i5, i4, iX1, and the Mini Countryman Electric, along with two electric scooters, the BMW CE 04 and CE 02, in the Indian market.
