BorgWarner has secured a new supply contract for its Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) technology with an unnamed Chinese motorcycle manufacturer. Production under the agreement is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2027.
As part of the contract, BorgWarner will supply an integrated transmission package comprising dual clutches, hydraulic control modules, and clutch control software. The system is designed for motorcycles and four-wheeled vehicles with engine capacities above 500 cc, offering a complete transmission solution rather than standalone components.
According to BorgWarner, the DCT system delivers smoother gear shifts and higher transmission efficiency compared to conventional Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) and Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) systems, making it particularly suitable for higher-displacement motorcycles.
The agreement also marks a strategic step for the company as it expands its role in the motorcycle industry from supplying individual powertrain components to providing integrated hardware and software solutions.
BorgWarner said the transmission system will support the customer’s domestic manufacturing operations in China while also underpinning its planned expansion into international markets, including North America, Europe, and other global regions.
