Dolby unveils new in-car entertainment innovations at CES 2025

Dolby will showcase its latest automotive innovations, offering an exclusive first look at new vehicles featuring Dolby Atmos, as well as the world’s first car equipped with both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

Dolby Laboratories, a leader in immersive entertainment, kicked off the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) by unveiling its latest innovations for the automotive industry. Throughout the event, Dolby will highlight its ongoing progress in automotive technology, showcasing collaborations with top manufacturers and suppliers, as well as a growing catalog of music, audiobooks, podcasts, and A/V content available to consumers for in-car entertainment.

“Dolby technologies are central to some of the most beloved entertainment experiences, enhancing how we enjoy movies, music, and more across all our devices. And there’s no better place to experience this premium entertainment than in your car,” said John Couling, Senior Vice President of Entertainment at Dolby Laboratories. “We’re excited about the strides we’ve made in bringing Dolby Atmos to more vehicles and, at CES, we’re not only celebrating this progress but also offering a glimpse into the next frontier of immersive in-car entertainment powered by Dolby Vision.

Dolby Expands Dolby Atmos to More Vehicles

Dolby’s momentum in the automotive sector continues to grow following its CES debut in 2023. Over the past year, the number of automakers supporting Dolby Atmos has more than doubled, rising from ten to over twenty, with industry leaders such as Cadillac, Li Auto, Mercedes-Benz, Polestar, Rivian, and Volvo Cars joining the roster. New partnerships were also announced at CES, including a collaboration with Sony Honda Mobility, which revealed that its highly anticipated electric vehicle, AFEELA, will feature Dolby Atmos support.

This year, Dolby is leveraging CES to demonstrate this growing momentum through a showcase of the latest vehicles to hit the road with Dolby Atmos. Guests at Dolby House, the hub of Dolby CES activities, will have the opportunity to be among the first to experience Dolby Atmos in the all-new 2025 Cadillac OPTIQ’s 19-speaker AKG audio system. Offered as a standard feature for customers, OPTIQ will be the first in the brand’s lineup to offer Dolby Atmos.

Dolby is also working closely with automotive SoC and DSP suppliers like Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI), MediaTek, NXP® Semiconductors, and others to help fuel the deployment of Dolby Atmos into even more cars. This also now includes Texas Instruments, which announced at CES that it would support Dolby Atmos in its new family of chips for auto makers.

In addition, Dolby is working with its partners to showcase how Dolby Atmos can reach even more vehicles, including aftermarket car audio products. At CES, Pioneer exhibited the first public demonstration showcasing how Dolby Atmos could be used in an aftermarket solution using a 4-channel speaker system.

Fueling excitement around Dolby Atmos within industry circles and consumers alike is a robust and growing pipeline of content available to enjoy in Dolby Atmos. 93% of artists highlighted on Billboard’s 2024 Top 100 Artists have now released music in Dolby Atmos, which consumers can now experience during the daily commute. This is combined with the growing catalog of audiobooks and podcasts available through services like Audible, which are also available to drivers.

Dolby Introduces Dolby Vision for Vehicles

At CES 2025, Dolby made its automotive debut with Dolby Vision, bringing an enhanced high dynamic range (HDR) experience to in-car entertainment. Dolby Vision delivers lifelike visuals with more colors, true blacks, brighter highlights, and incredible detail across movies, games, and live sports.

The technology was showcased in a demo of Li Auto’s Li MEGA, the first vehicle to support both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Additionally, Samsung Display announced a strategic partnership with Dolby to integrate Dolby Vision into more vehicles globally, with Samsung’s OLED displays pre-tuned for optimal performance.
