Maserati GranTurismo Trofeo & Folgore Win 2025 Car and Driver Editor’s Choice Awards

Car and Driver’s annual Editor’s Choice Awards assess nearly 500 models across 45 segments through rigorous testing, evaluating performance, value, and driving enjoyment to highlight the best new vehicles for consumers.

The Maserati GranTurismo Trofeo and GranTurismo Folgore have earned Car and Driver’s prestigious 2025 Editor’s Choice Awards in the ‘Luxury Sports Car’ and ‘Electric Luxury Sports Car’ categories. Recognized as the automotive industry’s ‘honor roll,’ this accolade from a leading automotive publication marks a significant achievement for the Trident brand.

For its annual Editor’s Choice Awards, Car and Driver evaluates nearly 500 models in 45 different market segments on the road today. After rigorous instrumented testing, on-road and on-track driving, and consideration of a vehicle’s mission fulfillment, value, and driving enjoyment, its expert editorial team chooses the top players on the market for this award, helping consumers easily identify the best new vehicles available to purchase.

The 2025 Maserati GranTurismo combines the driving performance of a sports car with luxurious comfort suitable for long-distance drives. Designed and developed at the Maserati Innovation Lab in Modena, GranTurismo is 100% Made in Italy and epitomizes Italian luxury and performance.

Its advanced architecture readily accepts both internal combustion (ICE) and fully electric (BEV) drivetrains with virtually no change to the vehicle’s core design, something that is unique in the BEV space. This allows customers the luxury of choice with the Trofeo ICE GranTurismo variant featuring the powerhouse 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 Nettuno engine, which utilizes pre-chamber combustion technology derived from Formula One.

Alternatively, the GranTurismo Folgore adopts a 100% electric battery-based powertrain, powered by three 300-kW permanent magnet motors sending 760 horsepower to all four wheels. Its 800-volt architecture was developed with innovative solutions derived from Formula E, and its distinctive “t-bone” battery arrangement allows for a low center of gravity while retaining the same striking design and driving position as its ICE variants.

“We are honored to receive these prestigious awards from such a respected automotive authority like Car and Driver,” said General Manager of Maserati North America, Andrea Soriani.  Maserati has a well-documented history of building beautiful and desirable Grand Touring cars. The modern GranTurismo perfectly encapsulates Maserati’s core elements of elegant design, incredible performance, and unwavering dedication to Italian excellence.”

With more than 75 years of history dating back to the original A6 1500 grand tourer, the 2025 GranTurismo Trofeo and GranTurismo Folgore encapsulate an undeniable Italian flair, harkening to the best parts of the Brand’s past while shining a beacon toward its innovative future.
