Mitsubishi Fuso unveils the fully remodelled heavy-duty Super Great truck

The new Super Great, now fully remodelled 6 years after its last major redesign in 2017, focuses on delivering improved economy, safety, and comfort.

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation unveiled a new model of the Super Great truck on October 25, 2023. The sales of the new Super Great in the Japanese market are scheduled to start within 2023.

The new Super Great, now fully remodelled 6 years after its last major redesign in 2017, focuses on delivering improved economy, safety, and comfort. The latest model is equipped with the 6R30 high-performance 12.8L engine, which provides both power and efficiency. In addition, the cab has been redesigned to improve aerodynamics, and tires with low rolling resistance have also been adopted to meet Japan’s FY2025 Fuel Efficiency Standards (known as JH25).

The latest Super Great also features an upgraded cab design that centers on the FUSO Black Belt motif. The FUSO Black Belt, which is integrated into other products within the lineup such as the light-duty Canter and the heavy-duty Aero Queen coach bus, provides FUSO products with an immediately recognizable identity, bolstering the brand’s overall visibility within the commercial vehicle industry. On the Super Great, the Black Belt motif communicates the strength and sophistication worthy of a flagship heavy-duty truck. The new design also incorporates functional merits: not only is the new cab exterior more aerodynamic, reduced use of resin parts and more environmentally friendly surface treatments contribute to the reduction of CO₂ in the manufacturing process.

In addition, the new Super Great comes with the latest in advanced safety technology. The truck is equipped with Active Brake Assist 6 (ABA®6), the updated frontal collision mitigation system. Active Side Guard Assist® 2.0, which detects hazards on both sides of the vehicle for turns and lane-changes, is also part of the standard product offering.

As an integral part of the Daimler Truck group, MFTBC supports the organization’s pursuit of Vision Zero. The aspiration aims to eventually reduce road accidents involving Daimler Truck vehicles to zero through the development of safety and driver assistance technology as well as automated driving systems. MFTBC was the first commercial vehicle manufacturer to bring Level-2 automated driving assistance features to the Japanese market with the 2019 Super Great, thanks to technology developed within the Daimler Truck network, and it remains committed to delivering further market-leading trucks that enable safer and more efficient long-haul transportation.

The 6R30 high-performance12.8L engine
The new 6R30 engine improves thermal efficiency by increasing combustion pressure through increased compression ratio and turbo modification. Two turbochargers are configured to match the engine’s power output, resulting in an increase in torque, particularly at lower speeds. Optimizations have been made to better accommodate earlier shifting at lower speeds. For drivers who prefer the AMT Shift Pilot®, gearshift timing has also been adjusted to match the increase in low-speed torque. These improvements to the combustion system, as well as the reduction of driving resistance and tuning of various engine parts, have resulted in even better fuel economy.

The high torque of the large-capacity engine provides ample traction on long hills and excellent response during acceleration, leading to improved driving comfort. The 6R30 engine boasts a higher NOx purification rate with the BlueTec® system in exhaust aftertreatment.

Active Brake Assist 6 (standard feature on all grades)
The new Super Great is newly equipped with Active Brake Assist 6 (ABA®6), a collision mitigation system with an even wider detection range and improved accuracy, providing more advanced safety support. The system uses a frontal recognition camera and millimetre wave radar to detect potential collisions with vehicles or pedestrians ahead, emits warnings, and activates brakes to reduce risks on the road.

Active Side Guard Assist 2.0 (standard feature on all grades)
The new Super Great comes with Active Side Guard Assist 2.0, an upgraded radar system that can now detect hazards on both sides of the vehicle during turns and lane-changes. If the radar detects a hazardous moving object in the path of the vehicle at speeds of 20 km/h or less, Active Side Guard Assist 2.0 will activate a damage mitigation brake to bring the vehicle to an emergency stop.

Front Blind Spot Information System (standard on all models)
The Front Blind Spot Information System, a low-speed collision warning system freshly installed in the new model, detects pedestrians and bicycles approaching the front of the vehicle. Particularly with larger vehicles, this area can be a challenging blind spot for drivers.

Rear-View Camera System (standard on all models)
A high-performance rear-view camera system now comes standard to provide peace of mind when backing up. The camera displays the area behind the vehicle on the monitor.

Newly integrated Black Belt design
The new Super Great has a completely redesigned cab design showcasing the FUSO Black Belt motif on the front face. Communicating refined strength and reliability, the design is also simultaneously more aerodynamic.

Redesigned LED headlights (standard on all models)
As part of the updated cab design, FUSO is introducing a new LED headlight configuration integrating fog lamps and turn lamps into a more consolidated area. The remodelled lights contribute to better aerodynamics and safer driving on the road.

LED rear combination lamps (optional on all models)
An updated design for LED rear combination lamps is available with the new model. They adopt a sequential lighting pattern that lights up in the direction of turns.

FUSO Easy Access Key (standard on all models)
With the Easy Access Key, doors can easily be locked and unlocked with just a press of a button. The engine can also be started without having to insert the key.

Electric parking brake (standard on all models)
An electric parking brake is now included as a standard feature. The brake has an automatic release and activation function to reduce problems caused by human error.
