Revealed at the 2026 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the Vision BMW ALPINA marks the beginning of a new era for the iconic performance-luxury brand. The concept blends extreme capability with elegance, staying true to Alpina’s long-standing philosophy that speed and comfort should coexist seamlessly.
Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design, said the Vision BMW ALPINA reflects the brand’s unique identity in a modern form, preserving its heritage while shaping its future within the BMW Group.
Measuring 5,200 mm in length, the concept features a low, wide, and commanding stance, highlighted by a sleek coupé roofline designed to comfortably accommodate four adults. Power comes from a V8 engine tuned to deliver the signature Alpina exhaust note — refined at low speeds and deeply resonant at higher revs.
Maximilian Missoni, Head of BMW Design Midsize & Luxury Cars and BMW ALPINA, described the design approach as one focused on purity, sophistication, and engineering substance. Every element is crafted to reveal deeper details upon closer inspection, following Alpina’s “Second Read” philosophy.
At the front, the iconic BMW shark nose is reinterpreted with a sculpted three-dimensional kidney grille that projects confidence without unnecessary aggression. A defining “speed feature line” begins at the lower front corners, running across the body and wrapping around the rear to emphasize motion and elegance.
Classic Alpina signatures have been modernized throughout the concept. The traditional deco-lines, part of the brand’s identity since 1974, are now subtly integrated beneath the clear coat. The concept also features carefully detailed inward-facing surfaces finished in dark metallic tones, inspired by the legendary BMW 507.
Lighting elements add to the premium character, with warm white daytime running lights inspired by the first sunlight over the Bavarian Alps. Illuminated crystal detailing within the lamps enhances the refined appearance. The signature elliptical four-pipe exhaust, polished “ALPINA” lettering, and iconic 20-spoke wheels — 22 inches at the front and 23 inches at the rear — reinforce the brand’s heritage.
Inside, the cabin combines spaciousness with architectural simplicity. The six-degree speed feature line continues through the interior, visually separating the darker upper section from the lighter lower section. Full-grain leather sourced from Alpine-region suppliers, deco-line-inspired stitching, and carefully crafted metal finishes elevate the luxury experience.
Distinctive craftsmanship details include heritage blue and green stitching inspired by classic steering wheel hand-stitching techniques, alongside watchmaking-inspired satin and polished metal surfaces. Clear-cut crystal controls are reserved for key driving functions, emphasizing Alpina’s focus on the driving experience.
One of the standout features is the rear center console, where a glass water bottle and specially designed BMW ALPINA crystal glasses rise automatically from the console. Each glass carries engraved deco-lines and is illuminated softly while held in place by concealed magnets.
Comfort remains central to the Alpina philosophy. The Vision BMW ALPINA continues the brand’s signature Comfort+ driving mode, offering an even more refined ride than standard BMW comfort settings. BMW Panoramic iDrive and a dedicated ALPINA-specific interface use heritage blue and green tones that intensify as the driver transitions from Comfort+ to Speed mode.
The concept also pays tribute to Alpina founder Burkard Bovensiepen, who established the company in Buchloe, Germany, in 1965. His belief that “a comfortable driver is a faster driver” became the foundation of Alpina’s road and racing cars and continues to shape the brand today.
BMW highlighted the Alpina B7 Coupé of the late 1970s as a major inspiration behind the Vision BMW ALPINA. Based on the BMW E24 6 Series, the B7 combined luxury, long-distance comfort, and high-speed capability — values that continue in this latest concept.
Now operating as an exclusive brand within the BMW Group, BMW ALPINA aims to position itself between BMW and Rolls-Royce in the luxury market. Oliver Viellechner, Head of BMW ALPINA, said the company intends to preserve Alpina’s essence of speed, sophistication, and comfort while expanding its presence in the high-end segment.
BMW confirmed that the first production BMW ALPINA model under the new structure will debut next year, inspired by the BMW 7 Series while carrying a distinct BMW ALPINA identity.
