Xiaomi, the tech giant renowned for its smartphones, has officially entered the electric vehicle (EV) arena with the introduction of its inaugural EV model, the Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan. Positioned to rival established players like Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4, the SU7 series is set to make waves in the rapidly evolving EV market.
The SU7 series comprises three distinct variants, catering to diverse consumer preferences: the standard SU7, the SU7 Pro, and the SU7 Max. Each variant brings a unique blend of design elements, powertrains, and features, offering customers a range of choices to suit their individual needs.
Impressive Design and Dimensions
The Xiaomi SU7 boasts an impressive exterior, with dimensions measuring 4,997mm in length, 1,963mm in width, and 1,455mm in height. The substantial wheelbase of 3,000mm contributes to the sedan’s overall stability and road presence. Customers can personalize their SU7 with a choice of two stylish wheel options, available in 19-inch or 20-inch sizes, enhancing the vehicle’s aesthetic appeal.
Powerful Performance Configurations
Under the hood, the SU7 demonstrates versatility with two powertrain configurations. The Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) version is equipped with a robust 220kW motor, while the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variant boasts a combined output of 495kW, thanks to a dual-motor setup (220kW front + 275kW rear). The choice of battery technology includes an LFP battery pack from BYD for the more affordable trim and a ternary NMC battery from CATL for the premium variant.
The performance specifications reflect a commitment to efficiency and power. The RWD model, with a curb weight of 1,980kg, achieves a top speed of 210kmph, while the AWD model, weighing 2,205kg, reaches an impressive maximum speed of 265kmph.
Innovative In-Car System with HyperOS
Xiaomi integrates innovation into the SU7’s in-car system, powered by its proprietary HyperOS. This operating system, known for its versatility in operating smartphones and now cars, highlights Xiaomi’s dedication to delivering a seamless user experience across devices.
Production and Release Timeline
Production of the Xiaomi SU7 is slated to commence in December 2023, with the first deliveries expected in February 2024. The BAIC Off-road Vehicle Company factory in Beijing, serving as the contract manufacturer for the SU7, has initiated trial production. Notably, BAIC, with ties to Mercedes-Benz, adds to the credibility of the SU7’s manufacturing process.
Xiaomi’s foray into the EV industry was first signaled in March 2021 with a commitment to invest around USD 1.4 billion in this new venture. The registration of XiaomiEV.com in August 2023 marked a crucial step toward realizing Xiaomi’s electric dream.
As anticipation builds for the release of the Xiaomi SU7, the tech giant is poised to disrupt the EV market with its blend of innovative design, powerful performance, and cutting-edge technology. The SU7 series is more than an electric sedan; it represents Xiaomi’s bold entry into shaping the future of electric mobility.
