Valeo and Hero MotoCorp partner to develop Advanced Rider Assistance Systems for 2Ws

Valeo, a global leader in automotive technology, and Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles and scooters, have announced a strategic partnership to co-develop Advanced Rider Assistance Systems (ARAS) for two-wheelers, formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The collaboration aims to enhance rider safety by integrating advanced sensing, perception, and intelligent technologies specifically designed for two-wheelers. These solutions will be developed for both entry-level and premium models, including Hero MotoCorp’s growing electric mobility portfolio under the VIDA brand, supporting safer and smarter two-wheeler mobility.

Built on a shared vision for creating safer, smarter, and more sustainable mobility solutions, the Advanced Rider Assistance Systems (ARAS) platform leverages Valeo’s radar and smart camera technologies to equip Hero MotoCorp’s motorcycles and scooters with intelligent safety features. These innovations are designed to reduce road accidents, elevate the riding experience, and set new global standards for two-wheeler safety. The partnership has already delivered successful proof-of-concept systems designed to protect both riders and pedestrians.

“We are truly excited to partner with Hero MotoCorp to deliver solutions that will significantly enhance rider safety and create a more secure riding experience for millions of people,” said Marc Vrecko, Chief Executive Officer of Valeo’s Brain Division. “This collaboration is a key step in our strategy to bring advanced technology to the rapidly growing mobility market in India and globally.”

At the core of the initiative is a comprehensive Advanced Rider Assistance Systems (ARAS) architecture designed to act as a digital co-pilot for riders, creating a 360-degree safety envelope around the vehicle. The system addresses the realities of urban traffic, mixed road usage, and vulnerable road users through real-time sensing and intelligent alerts, with relevance across internal combustion and electric two-wheelers.

Commenting on the partnership, Ram Kuppuswamy, Chief Operations Officer, Plant Operations, Hero MotoCorp, said: “At Hero MotoCorp, we are redefining the future of mobility by bringing advanced technology to our products. Our partnership with Valeo marks a significant stride in making mobility smarter, safer and more sustainable with next-gen advanced rider assistance systems. Together, we aim to make two-wheeler safety accessible to everyone and set new standards for innovation and protection globally.”

The range of offerings from Valeo includes a radar-based system that enhances rider safety by supporting critical warnings such as Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Distance Warning (DW), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), and Rear Collision Warning (RCW). A vision system based on high-resolution cameras enables enhanced Pedestrian Detection, Lane Detection, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Lane Departure Warning. Intelligent image processing allows the system to identify road signs and obstacles, even in low-light conditions. When combined, these radar and vision systems create a robust and comprehensive safety net for two-wheeler riders, spanning conventional and electric platforms.

As part of the ongoing collaboration, Advanced Rider Assistance Systems (ARAS) concepts and technologies are presented through an innovative display at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, offering a glimpse into the future of intelligent rider safety solutions for two-wheelers, including next-generation electric scooters.
