VinFast has introduced a new Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Calculator to help customers compare the long-term costs of electric vehicles with petrol-powered cars and other EVs.
Initially launched across VinFast’s Asian markets, the web-based tool allows buyers to assess ownership costs based on factors such as vehicle model, monthly driving distance, battery ownership option and expected ownership period.
The calculator provides personalized estimates for monthly financing payments, energy costs and overall ownership expenses. It also shows potential savings compared with comparable petrol vehicles and other electric models.
For example, a buyer in India selecting the VinFast VF 6 Earth, driving 2,000 km per month and keeping the vehicle for five years, could see an estimated total ownership cost of ₹17.83 lakh. Under the same assumptions, the calculator estimates a comparable petrol vehicle would cost around ₹24.64 lakh, resulting in potential savings of approximately ₹6.82 lakh, or 28%.
The tool is designed to address one of the key challenges in EV adoption: understanding the financial impact of ownership beyond the vehicle’s upfront price. While electric vehicles can offer lower energy and maintenance costs, buyers often find it difficult to calculate their potential long-term savings based on their individual driving patterns.
By allowing users to adjust key ownership variables, VinFast’s TCO Calculator enables consumers to evaluate different scenarios and better understand how financing, driving distance and ownership duration can affect overall vehicle costs.
The calculator also serves as a financial planning tool for individual buyers, daily commuters and commercial users looking to estimate their future transportation expenses.
VinFast’s initiative comes as consumers increasingly evaluate vehicles based on their lifetime ownership economics, rather than purchase price alone. By providing personalized cost comparisons, the automaker aims to make the financial benefits of electric mobility more transparent and help customers make more informed purchasing decisions.
