Electric vehicle manufacturer SWITCH Mobility, the electric mobility arm of Ashok Leyland and part of the Hinduja Group, has launched an electric double-decker sightseeing bus service in New Delhi. Branded ‘Dekho Meri Dilli’, the initiative operates under the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and is positioned as the capital’s first zero-emission double-decker sightseeing experience.
The full-day tour begins at Dilli Haat INA at 9:00 am and covers several prominent heritage and cultural landmarks across the city. The route includes stops near Vijay Chowk, Rashtrapati Bhavan, the National Museum New Delhi, the National Gallery of Modern Art, Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, as well as India Gate and the National War Memorial. Passengers complete the circuit with a return to Dilli Haat–INA by 6:00 pm.
The sightseeing service uses the SWITCH EiV 22, described by the company as India’s first standard-floor, air-conditioned electric double-decker bus. The vehicle is powered by a 231 kWh NMC chemistry battery pack and offers a claimed driving range of up to 250 kilometres. Designed to accommodate 65 passengers, the bus features a 650V electrical architecture, dual-gun charging capability, and liquid-cooled battery technology. SWITCH Mobility noted that the vehicle is manufactured domestically in line with the Government of India’s FAME II incentive framework.
According to the company, SWITCH-branded electric double-decker buses are already operating in multiple Indian locations, including Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, and Kerala. It also reported that 100 electric tourist hop-on hop-off buses are currently deployed across 10 destinations nationwide.
Ashok Leyland established its electric mobility division to consolidate electric bus and light commercial vehicle operations under a dedicated platform. SWITCH Mobility states that it has deployed more than 2,400 electric buses globally, collectively covering over 150 million kilometres in service.
