The appointment highlights Mahindra’s growing emphasis on connected technologies and precision agriculture as part of its broader digital transformation roadmap. In his new role, Kumar will report to Rucha Nanavati, Chief Digital Transformation Officer – Auto and Chief of Advanced Technologies – FEB. Ashay Shah, GM – Business Development, Telematics, will report to Kumar.

Mahindra & Mahindra has strengthened its digital and telematics push within its Farm Equipment Business (FEB) by appointing Pankaj Kumar as Head of Telematics, reinforcing its focus on data-driven agricultural solutions.

The move reflects Mahindra’s growing emphasis on technology-led farming and positions telematics as a key pillar of its digital transformation roadmap. Kumar will report to Rucha Nanavati, Chief Digital Transformation Officer – Auto and Chief of Advanced Technologies – FEB, highlighting the increasing importance of connected technologies within the company’s farm equipment business. Meanwhile, Ashay Shah, GM – Business Development, Telematics, will report to Kumar.

In his new role, Kumar will lead B2B sales for the Krish-e Smart Kit (KSK), drive adoption of telematics solutions, and help develop revenue-generating services based on connected platforms. The initiative comes as precision agriculture, connected machinery, and data-led farm services gain momentum globally, with manufacturers increasingly transitioning from hardware-focused offerings to integrated digital ecosystems.

Mahindra has already been expanding its Krish‑e ecosystem, which integrates advisory, mechanisation, inputs, and market linkages. Solutions such as the Krish‑e Smart Kit are designed to transform tractors and equipment into connected assets capable of delivering real-time insights, predictive maintenance, and improved farm-level decision-making.

The broader strategy aims to shift from a product-centric approach to a platform-led model, where digital capabilities enhance customer engagement while creating new revenue streams.

Kumar brings over 16 years of experience across global corporations and agri-tech startups. Most recently, he served as Executive Vice President – Business & Strategy at Plantix and has previously worked with ReshaMandi, Nurture.farm, AgroStar and Dow AgroSciences. He also brings entrepreneurial experience as co-founder of MITRA Agro Equipments.

The appointment underscores Mahindra’s intent to stay ahead as digital, connected, and precision technologies continue to reshape the global farm equipment landscape.
