JBM Group has appointed Umashanker Gupta as Executive Vice President and Head – R&D (Electric Vehicles), reinforcing its focus on strengthening electric mobility and advancing electric bus platforms. In his new role, Gupta will lead research and development initiatives centered on EV architecture, system integration, and scalable mobility solutions, with a strong emphasis on engineering-led innovation, modular platform design, and data-driven product development.
Prior to joining JBM Group, Gupta served as General Manager and Head – R&D at Volvo Buses India, where he played a key role in vehicle development and engineering programs. He also spent more than two decades at VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd, holding several leadership positions, including Head – Vehicle Technology for trucks and buses, contributing to product innovation and platform development.
Earlier in his career, Gupta worked with L&T Technology Services and Escorts Kubota Limited in design and engineering roles, building extensive expertise across commercial vehicle engineering and product development.
With over two decades of experience in vehicle engineering and mobility solutions, Gupta’s appointment comes as JBM Group continues to strengthen its electric mobility capabilities, particularly in the rapidly growing electric bus segment.
