Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has introduced an AMT gearbox option in the Tata Altroz iCNG, making it India’s first and only premium hatchback to offer an automatic transmission with a CNG powertrain.
Priced from ₹8.69 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the Altroz iCNG AMT expands Tata Motors’ multi-powertrain strategy by combining the fuel efficiency of CNG with the convenience of automatic driving.
The new Altroz iCNG AMT is available in five variants:
- Pure – ₹8.69 lakh
- Pure S – ₹8.99 lakh
- Creative – ₹9.56 lakh
- Creative S – ₹9.81 lakh
- Accomplished S – ₹10.76 lakh
Commenting on the launch, Vivek Srivatsa said the addition of AMT addresses growing customer demand for convenience-focused CNG vehicles, while further strengthening the Altroz’s position as one of the most versatile offerings in the premium hatchback segment.
The Altroz iCNG AMT is powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron iCNG engine producing 73.5 PS and 103 Nm of torque in CNG mode. The powertrain now comes paired with an AMT transmission designed to improve ease of driving, especially in city traffic conditions.
The hatchback continues to feature Tata Motors’ twin-cylinder iCNG technology, which positions the CNG cylinders beneath the luggage compartment to retain usable boot space. The Altroz offers 210 litres of boot space in CNG mode, while petrol and diesel variants provide 345 litres.
Additional convenience features include direct start in CNG mode and a single advanced ECU that enables seamless switching between petrol and CNG operation.
In terms of design and features, the Altroz iCNG AMT carries forward the styling updates of the latest Altroz, including flush door handles, connected LED tail lamps, LED headlamps with DRLs, and a premium cabin layout. The interior features twin 26.03 cm digital screens for infotainment and instrumentation, ambient lighting, a soft-touch dashboard, and lounge-style rear seats.
Built on Tata Motors’ ALFA architecture, the Altroz continues to hold a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating across petrol, diesel, and CNG variants. Standard safety equipment includes six airbags, ESP, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and reverse parking sensors, while higher variants also offer features such as a 360-degree HD surround-view camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, automatic headlamps, and LED fog lamps.
