Dr. Anilkumar Gaikwad named President of International Road Federation (India Chapter)

With extensive experience in infrastructure and road development, Dr. Gaikwad is set to strengthen IRF India’s initiatives focused on safer roads, sustainable mobility, school zone safety, emergency care, and green construction practices.

Dr. Anilkumar Gaikwad, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation, has been elected as the new President of the International Road Federation (India Chapter), a global body dedicated to promoting safer and better road infrastructure worldwide.

Dr Gaikwad,  a seasoned and experienced infrastructure and road development professional is expected to significantly contribute to the India Chapter of the International Road Federation through diverse road safety and mobility initiatives. These include the Federation’s flagship programmes centered around the “5Es of Safe Road System” — Engineering of Roads, Engineering of Vehicles and Policy Corrections, Education, Enforcement and Emergency Care. As well as the National Road Safety Mission for Schools, comprising of School Zone Safety and Digital Road Safety Education initiatives. He will also play a key role in strengthening and expanding the Federation’s membership base.

Under Dr. Gaikwad’s leadership, the Federation will continue to pursue road safety as a national priority while expanding its focus on advocacy, consulting, institutional capacity building and promotion of sustainable green construction practices. Special emphasis will be laid on environmentally responsible infrastructure development assisted through innovative tools such as the Green House Calculator.

The Core Governance Team of IRF India Chapter comprise of 21 distinguished members along with four Special Permanent Invitees, led by the Founder President Mr K K Kapoila representing expertise across road engineering, infrastructure, transport, education, enforcement, and sustainable mobility sectors.

The Governing Council and Members of IRF-IC wished their sincere gratitude to Mr. Akhilesh Srivastava, the outgoing President for his dynamic leadership and outstanding contributions during his tenure as President.  Under his stewardship, IRF-IC significantly expanded its pioneering initiatives in road safety, school zone safety, emergency care and sustainable mobility.

The International Road Federation (India Chapter) is a membership-based not-for-profit organization formally incorporated as the India Chapter of the International Road Federation in January 2011 under the Registrar of Societies. Since its inception, the Federation has been actively engaged in advancing safer roads, sustainable mobility, capacity development, advocacy and policy support initiatives across India.
