Xpeng May 2026 deliveries Fall 4.1%, GX SUV orders boost outlook

Despite a fifth consecutive month of year-on-year delivery declines, Xpeng is seeing strong momentum from its new GX SUV, growing overseas sales and advancements in autonomous driving technology.

Xpeng reported deliveries of 32,158 vehicles in May 2026, representing a 4.1% year-on-year decline and marking the company’s fifth consecutive month of annual delivery contraction. However, deliveries increased 3.7% compared to April, indicating signs of stabilization amid challenging market conditions in China’s highly competitive electric vehicle sector.

During the first five months of 2026, Xpeng delivered 125,851 vehicles, down 22.6% year-on-year. Despite the slowdown, the automaker’s cumulative deliveries have now exceeded 1.14 million units, underscoring its growing footprint in the global EV market.

A key catalyst for future growth is the newly launched GX SUV, which entered the market on May 20. While the model had limited impact on May deliveries due to its late-month launch, early demand has been strong. The GX secured 24,863 confirmed orders within 12 hours of launch, with more than 80% of customers opting for the flagship Ultra variants, highlighting strong consumer interest in its premium technology and feature set.

Available in both battery-electric and extended-range electric versions, the GX targets the rapidly expanding mid-to-premium SUV segment. Xpeng has also adopted a competitive pricing strategy, with the model starting at 269,800 yuan (approximately USD 39,800), aimed at strengthening its position in a crowded marketplace.

Beyond vehicle sales, Xpeng continues to advance its autonomous driving ambitions. In May, the company announced that China’s first factory-built, mass-produced Level 4 robotaxi developed entirely by an automaker had rolled off the production line in Guangzhou. Based on the GX platform, the robotaxi is powered by four in-house developed Turing AI chips delivering a combined computing capability of 3,000 TOPS, with demonstration operations expected to begin in the third quarter of 2026.

The company is also gaining traction in international markets. Xpeng’s overseas business crossed a major milestone in April, with monthly exports surpassing 6,000 units for the first time. The expansion of deliveries for the P7+ sedan has contributed significantly to this growth, supporting the automaker’s strategy to diversify beyond the domestic Chinese market.

While May’s delivery figures reflect ongoing market pressures, strong early demand for the GX SUV, accelerating international expansion, and continued investment in autonomous driving technologies position Xpeng for a potential recovery in the months ahead.
