Hindustan Zinc partners with Advantek and Aero Eagle for Green Hydrogen Study

The initiative will assess hydrogen fuel cells, hydrogen ICE solutions, and related infrastructure as part of the company's net-zero emissions strategy.

Hindustan Zinc Limited has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Advantek Associates LLP and Aero Eagle Automobiles Private Limited to assess the adoption of green hydrogen technologies across its mining and industrial operations. The partnership aims to evaluate the technical, operational, and economic viability of integrating hydrogen-based energy solutions within energy-intensive mining environments.

The collaboration will focus on exploring the use of hydrogen fuel cells and Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine (H2-ICE) technologies as cleaner alternatives for applications that are challenging to electrify. The study will cover key aspects of the hydrogen value chain, including green hydrogen production, storage solutions, refuelling infrastructure, and the deployment of hydrogen-powered equipment such as heavy earth-moving machinery, surface transport vehicles, power generators, and underground mining equipment.

Under the agreement, the project will be implemented in phases, beginning with detailed assessments of operational feasibility, safety requirements, environmental impact, and financial viability. Based on the outcomes of these studies, the partners may move forward with pilot projects and broader deployment of hydrogen-powered equipment across selected operations.

The initiative aligns with Hindustan Zinc’s sustainability roadmap and its commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 or earlier. The company has already made progress in decarbonizing its operations, with nearly 18 percent of its energy requirements currently being met through renewable power sources.
