Billion Electric partners with JK Cement to deploy over 150 electric trucks

The collaboration includes electric trucks, charging infrastructure and fleet management, supporting the cement manufacturer's transition to sustainable freight operations across western and southern India.

Billion Electric Mobility has entered into a partnership with JK Cement to deploy more than 150 heavy-duty electric trucks during the current financial year, supporting the cement manufacturer’s efforts to decarbonise its logistics operations through electric mobility.

The collaboration has commenced with a pilot deployment of 20 electric trucks, each with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 55 tonnes, at JK Cement’s Muddapur plant in Karnataka. The trucks will be used to transport cement to stockyards across Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa.

As part of the agreement, Billion Electric will provide an end-to-end electric freight solution that includes the deployment of electric trucks, charging infrastructure, fleet management and route optimisation services.

To ensure seamless operations, the company will leverage ChargeZone’s EV charging network along key freight corridors in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa. Charging infrastructure is being expanded at strategic locations including Nipani, Satara, Pune, Karad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Goa, Hubli and Davanagere.

Commenting on the partnership, Pushparaj Singh, Group President – Marketing, JK Cement, said the initiative aligns with the company’s sustainability goals by reducing emissions generated through freight transportation.

Sanjeev Kulkarni, Chief Executive Officer, Billion Electric Mobility, said the collaboration reflects the growing adoption of electric trucks for commercial logistics and demonstrates how integrated electric freight solutions, supported by a robust charging ecosystem, can enable businesses to transition to cleaner transportation.

The companies said the partnership is expected to serve as a scalable model for industrial logistics by combining electric truck deployment with dedicated charging infrastructure across major freight routes.

Billion Electric Mobility operates an electric mobility-as-a-service (eMaaS) platform for commercial transportation, while its group company ChargeZone manages one of India’s expanding EV charging networks. JK Cement, part of the JK Organisation, is one of India’s leading cement manufacturers with operations spanning grey and white cement production.
