TVS Motor Company has entered Africa’s electric two-wheeler market with the launch of its TVS iQube electric scooter in Kenya. The move makes TVS Motor the first Indian original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to introduce a premium electric scooter in the African market, marking another step in the company’s global electric mobility expansion.
The iQube will be sold and serviced in Kenya through Car & General, TVS Motor’s long-standing distribution partner in the country. The launch is part of TVS Motor’s strategy to expand its electric vehicle portfolio internationally and tap into the growing demand for cleaner and more affordable mobility solutions in emerging markets.
Commenting on the launch, Peyman Kargar, President, International Business, TVS Motor Company, said, “Driven by our vision to transform lives through exciting, responsible, and sustainable mobility, we are proud to introduce the TVS iQube in Kenya—marking our entry into the African market.”
TVS iQube Offered in Two Variants in Kenya
The TVS iQube will be available in Kenya in two variants — iQube 3.5 and iQube 2.2.
The iQube 3.5 is equipped with a 3.5 kWh battery pack and offers a claimed real-world range of 115 km, while the iQube 2.2 features a 2.2 kWh battery and delivers a real-world range of 75 km.
Both versions use a 4.6 kW hub-mounted electric motor, enabling a top speed of 82 kmph and acceleration from 0-40 kmph in 4.2 seconds.
Connected Features and Safety Technology
The electric scooter comes equipped with TVS Motor’s SmartXonnect connected technology platform, which provides a range of connected and convenience features.
These include turn-by-turn navigation, geofencing, anti-theft alerts, ride analytics, charging statistics and crash/fall alerts, among other functions.
TVS Targets Africa’s Growing EV Opportunity
TVS Motor’s entry into Kenya comes as the African two-wheeler market continues to present growth opportunities for electric mobility. The company already has an established presence in the region’s internal combustion engine (ICE) two-wheeler market and is now looking to build on that footprint with its electric portfolio.
According to Vijay Gidoomal, Chief Executive Officer, Car & General, Africa’s overall two-wheeler market is projected to grow at a 7-10% CAGR through 2030, while the electric two-wheeler segment is expected to grow at a significantly faster 15-25% CAGR over the same period. EV penetration remains relatively low, leaving considerable room for future growth.
TVS Motor said the iQube has surpassed one million customers globally since its launch.
Madhu Prakash Singh, Vice President, International Business, TVS Motor Company, said rising fuel prices are strengthening the case for electric mobility, with the iQube offering lower running costs compared with petrol-powered scooters while giving consumers greater choice across different mobility requirements.
With its Kenya launch, TVS Motor is taking its established electric scooter platform into a new international market and strengthening its broader push toward global electric mobility.
