Maharashtra emerged as India’s top passenger vehicle (PV) market in the first quarter of FY27, recording sales of 1.47 lakh units, according to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
The state accounted for 11.6 per cent of the 12.74 lakh passenger vehicles sold across India during Q1 FY27. Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu followed Maharashtra among the leading passenger vehicle markets during the quarter.
At the regional level, the Western Zone, which includes Maharashtra, recorded the highest passenger vehicle sales, with 3.90 lakh units sold during the quarter.
Maharashtra leads Commercial Vehicle Sales
India recorded commercial vehicle (CV) sales of 2.65 lakh units during Q1 FY27, with the Western Zone contributing the largest share at 0.91 lakh units.
Maharashtra also topped the state-wise commercial vehicle sales chart, recording 0.36 lakh units. Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh followed as the other major markets.
Uttar Pradesh leads Two-Wheeler and Three-Wheeler Sales
Uttar Pradesh emerged as the largest market for two-wheelers during Q1 FY27, with sales of 8.82 lakh units. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Bihar were the next five largest markets.
The state also led three-wheeler sales, recording 0.26 lakh units. Gujarat, Karnataka, Bihar and Assam followed Uttar Pradesh in the category.
India Records 73.82 Lakh Vehicle Sales in Q1 FY27
According to SIAM, India recorded sales of 56.29 lakh two-wheelers, 2.14 lakh three-wheelers, 2.65 lakh commercial vehicles and 12.74 lakh passenger vehicles during Q1 FY27.
Together, these four vehicle categories accounted for total sales of 73.82 lakh units across the country during the quarter, highlighting the continued importance of key states such as Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh across different segments of the Indian automotive market.
