Maruti Suzuki India Limited has launched its Auto Green Mission with the introduction of automatic S-CNG variants of three of its popular models — the Swift, Dzire and Baleno. The new range combines the convenience of an automatic transmission with the fuel efficiency associated with S-CNG technology.
According to Maruti Suzuki, the new models are aimed at customers seeking the ease of automatic driving without compromising on fuel efficiency or performance, particularly in urban traffic conditions. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire S-CNG AMT delivers a claimed fuel efficiency of 36.47 km/kg, making it, according to JATO Dynamics certification dated September 18, 2026, India’s most fuel-efficient sedan.
The fuel-efficiency figures have been certified by the test agency under Rule 115 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
Commenting on the launch, Mr. Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “We at Maruti Suzuki are always listening to our customers. He added, “We have been receiving unprecedented demand for our S-CNG range of vehicles as evolving, environmentally conscious customer expectations are driving acceptance for eco-friendly options across all segments. Maruti Suzuki Automatic S-CNG Powertrain and Transmission
The Swift, Dzire and Baleno S-CNG AMT models are powered by Maruti Suzuki’s Advanced Z12E 1.2-litre engine, which features Dual Variable Valve Timing (Dual VVT) and Idle Start Stop (ISS) technology.
The Z12E S-CNG engine is paired with Maruti Suzuki’s five-speed Auto Gear Shift (AGS) transmission, also known as an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). The system automatically manages gear changes, eliminating the need for manual clutch operation and making the cars easier to drive in stop-and-go traffic.
Drivers can also manually select gears when required, without operating a clutch pedal.

S-CNG Technology
Maruti Suzuki says its S-CNG vehicles are developed and tested at the company’s Research & Development facility with a focus on safety, performance, durability and fuel efficiency.
The S-CNG system uses an Intelligent Injection System designed to maintain an appropriate air-fuel ratio for efficient operation. The system also incorporates stainless-steel pipes and joints to help prevent corrosion and leakage within the CNG structure.
Other safety and engineering features include integrated wire harnesses designed to prevent short circuits and a microswitch that prevents the vehicle from starting while CNG is being refuelled.
The S-CNG system also incorporates Idle Start Stop (ISS) technology. It is designed to reduce fuel consumption during prolonged stops in traffic while enabling quick and silent engine restarts.
Auto Gear Shift Technology
Maruti Suzuki’s Auto Gear Shift technology uses an intelligent actuating unit to provide a clutchless, two-pedal driving experience.
The system automatically operates the clutch and selects gears, reducing driver effort in heavy traffic and urban driving conditions. At the same time, the technology is designed to retain the fuel-efficiency benefits associated with a manual transmission.
