Hyundai Motor India Limited to install nearly 600 fast public EV Chargers

By the end of 2024, HMIL's DC fast public charging network will include more than 50 stations across highways, cities, and dealerships. The company's existing public charging network has already been used by over 10,000 EV customers from HMIL and other brands, with a total energy consumption of over 7.30 lakh units.

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is set to install nearly 600 public fast EV charging stations across India over the next seven years. By December 2024, the company plans to establish a network of 50 fast charging stations. This ambitious initiative highlights HMIL’s dedication to promoting sustainable mobility and will play a key role in India’s shift toward cleaner energy.

Mr. Jae Wan Ryu, Function Head – Corporate Planning at HMIL, commented, “The EV market is projected to grow significantly by 2030. Our studies show that customers are concerned about long-distance EV travel on highways due to the lack of charging infrastructure. To address this, HMIL is focused on installing fast EV chargers along major highways and in key cities. With Hyundai Motor Company’s global EV and battery technology, HMIL is well-positioned to build a comprehensive EV ecosystem in India. We are actively investing in infrastructure to support the anticipated increase in demand for electric vehicles.”

To date, HMIL’s charging network has enabled around 50,000 charging sessions, providing over 7.30 lakh units of energy to more than 10,000 Hyundai and non-Hyundai EV owners.

HMIL has also signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu government to set up 100 EV charging stations across the state by 2027, promoting and accelerating the early adoption of green mobility in the state. Out of these, 10 stations will be operational within the Calendar Year 2024. All EV customers in Tamil Nadu can access these 24×7 charging stations conveniently through myHyundai app. Currently, three charging stations are fully operational at Spencer Plaza and BSR Mall in Chennai, and Hotel Seasons in Tiruvannamalai. The remaining 7 charging stations will be fully operational shortly.

Access to over 10,000 EV charging points through myHyundai app

HMIL’s myHyundai app empowers users with the ‘EV Charge’ feature, providing access to over 10,000 EV charging points across the country. This is done in collaboration with partners including ChargeZone, Statiq, Shell India and others. Now, a customer can drive seamlessly from Kashmir to Kanyakumari using the myHyundai app and its vast charging network.

Access to all EV owners

To promote inclusive EV adoption, HMIL’s charging stations are designed to be accessible to all 4W EVs manufactured in India, offering convenient charging solutions at attractive tariffs. These stations are strategically located at prominent locations with amenities such as coffee shops, restaurants, and shopping areas. Additionally, marshals are available at most of the stations to assist customers, and 24×7 CCTV surveillance ensures enhanced safety.

Key Locations

HMIL’s EV charging stations are strategically located in major cities such as Gurugram, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Chennai. The company has also established a pan-India network by setting up charging stations on major highways, including Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Jaipur, Hyderabad-Vijayawada, Mumbai-Pune, Mumbai-Surat, Bengaluru-Pune, and Pune-Kolhapur.

Advanced Technology

HMIL charging stations are equipped with advanced chargers offering multiple configurations: DC 150 kW + DC 60 kW + DC 30 kW or DC 150 kW + DC 30 kW or DC 60 kW.

HMIL’s efforts are not limited to infrastructure alone. The company has successfully sold over 4,061 EVs, including the popular Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Hyundai KONA models, as of November 2024.
