Suzuki Motorcycle India breaks ground for new manufacturing plant in Kharkhoda, Haryana

SMIPL’s second manufacturing plant in Kharkhoda, developed with an initial investment of nearly Rs. 1200 crores, will have a first-phase capacity of 7.5 lakh units annually. Spread over 100 acres—with 25 acres for manufacturing and 25 acres for green space—the facility emphasizes sustainable growth. Operations are set to begin in 2027, creating around 2,000 jobs and enhancing SMIPL’s production in India.

Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd. (SMIPL) has taken a significant step toward the future by laying the foundation stone for its new manufacturing plant in Haryana. Situated at IMT Kharkhoda—an industrial hub developed by HSIIDC—the new facility supports the government’s vision to strengthen industrial infrastructure, attract global investment, and create employment opportunities in the region.

The groundbreaking ceremony of SMIPL’s second manufacturing plant was led by Mr. Kenichi Umeda – Managing Director, Suzuki Motorcycle India, Mr. Takashi Ise – Executive General Manager, Motorcycle Operations, Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan and Mr. Tsuyoshi Tanaka – Executive General Manager, Quality Assurance and Inspection Operations, Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan along with Senior Leadership Team from Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) and SMIPL in the esteemed presence of Dr. Manoj Kumar – Deputy Commissioner, Sonipat and Ms. Kyoko Hokugo – Minister of Economics, Embassy of Japan in India.

This new manufacturing facility is a part of SMIPL’s strategy to meet the rising demand for its products in the Indian market while also supporting local development and job creation.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kenichi Umeda, Managing Director, Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd., said, “Laying the foundation stone for our second plant in India, reflects our focus on not just growing as a brand, but to grow with the people and communities of India. By establishing our facility at IMT Kharkhoda, we look forward to contributing to the region’s development, generating employment, and supporting the government’s vision for industrial progress. Parallelly, the Kharkhoda plant will help us to serve our customers better, support our dealer partners and strengthen collaboration with our suppliers. The basic concept of this plant is lean manufacturing. It will also feature modern automation and energy-efficient systems, helping us move towards Suzuki’s global vision for carbon neutrality and Sustainability.”
