Uno Minda has approved the establishment of a new greenfield manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad), Maharashtra, aimed at expanding its high-voltage electric powertrain capabilities for four-wheeler passenger vehicles.
The facility will be developed through the company’s subsidiary, Uno Minda Auto Innovations Private Limited (UMAIPL), with an estimated investment of ₹550 crore. The project will be financed through a combination of debt and equity, with capital expenditure planned in phases over the next two years. Commercial operations at the plant are expected to begin by the second quarter of FY28.
The upcoming facility will manufacture and assemble Electric Drive Units (EDU) and Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) systems, strengthening Uno Minda’s position in the growing electric and hybrid vehicle segment.
According to the company, the expansion is backed by fresh orders for EDU and DHT systems from a major anchor customer. Uno Minda also noted that this marks the second EV powertrain facility announced by UMAIPL within a short span.
The company is already developing another EV powertrain plant at Khed City in Pune, Maharashtra, which is expected to commence operations during the second half of FY27.
“The Indian automotive landscape is undergoing a structural shift toward sustainable mobility, and Uno Minda is at the forefront of this transition. By establishing our second dedicated EV powertrain plant in Maharashtra, we are not only expanding our capacity but also advancing our product offerings with Electric Drive Unit and DHT,” said Ravi Mehra, Managing Director, Uno Minda Limited.
He further added that Uno Minda remains committed to localising high-voltage powertrain technologies to support OEMs as the industry transitions toward battery electric vehicles, hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and range-extended EVs.
