ZF’s new 10,000 sq. meter plant marks a key milestone in its regional expansion, focusing on localizing axles and transmissions for the construction and railway sectors. Aligned with its ‘Make in India for India and the World’ vision, the facility showcases state-of-the-art production technology, supporting both domestic manufacturing excellence and global supply needs.

ZF Group, a global leader in automotive technology and solutions, has strengthened its commitment to India’s growth with the inauguration of its new manufacturing facility in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The plant will focus on localizing axles and transmissions for the construction and railway sectors, marking a major milestone in ZF’s expansion in the region.

Spread over an area of 10,000 sq meters, the new manufacturing facility displays ZF’s state-of-the-art production technology. The new off highway plant aligns with ZF’s objective of ‘Make in India for India and the World’ approach, highlighting the company’s thrust towards local manufacturing excellence while simultaneously catering to global demands. This facility will play a critical role in pioneering innovative solutions for construction equipment segment and railways in India for domestic markets and also grow exports as a hub for manufacturing for ZF Group’s global customers.

To meet the growth in India’s robust construction equipment segment and to address the demands for superior innovative solutions by its customers, ZF Group has invested 20 million Euro (192 CRORES) to strengthen its unwavering commitment to localize world class technologies, products and solutions to India’s growing mobility sector.

Dr. Peter Laier, Member of the ZF Group Board of Management, and Head – Commercial Vehicle Solutions and Industrial Technology, stated, “As we proudly inaugurate ZF’s new manufacturing plant in Coimbatore, this is another step ZF Group’s commitment to India’s dynamic manufacturing landscape. India is a strategic market for ZF Group, and we focus India for its engineering and manufacturing capabilities. This is led by its growing domestic market. This state-of-the-art facility aligns with our global strategy of growth closer to customers and reaffirms ZF’s dedication to fostering innovation and growth in this pivotal market.”

Mr. Akash Passey, President, ZF Group India expressed his enthusiasm about this strategic move, stating, “India stands as a pivotal manufacturing hub, embodying ZF’s unwavering commitment to the nation’s growth and development. Our strategy, ‘Make in India for India and Make in India for the World,’ underscores the immense domestic growth opportunities while positioning India as a global leader in manufacturing excellence. Mr. Andreas Moser, EVP Industrial Technologies, ZF Group stated, “In India, the construction industry is upbeat about the market potential with rapid urbanization and the push for infrastructural connectivity, which the country is witnessing. The industrialization of the ERGOPOWER transmission and MULTITRAC axle series at ZF Coimbatore plant will contribute to that development. This will help the plant to cater its production to domestic and export requirements. The new plant in Coimbatore together with the main hub in Germany will support the production capacity needed for the future market growth in the global construction equipment market.”

ZF’s new Off-Highway plant in Coimbatore will boost its presence in India by supplying advanced technologies to both domestic and global OEMs. The facility has industrialized the ERGOPOWER M transmission, a high-performance automatic powershift system optimized for construction machinery, offering up to 15% fuel savings and enhanced productivity.

Additionally, the plant localizes MULTITRAC axles, built for heavy-duty construction use. These axles combine high strength and torque with a compact, lightweight design, and offer multiple configuration options. Features like wet multi-disc brakes help reduce braking losses and improve overall efficiency.

ZF’s new Coimbatore plant will also localize production of the EcoMet transmission for India’s railway sector. Known for its performance, flexibility, and cost-efficiency, EcoMet’s modular design allows customization for various metro systems without added development costs.

This move aligns with ZF’s “local for local” strategy, expanding its strong global presence in rail markets to India. The investment reinforces ZF’s commitment to emerging markets, supporting both domestic demand and global supply chains, while advancing its role as a leading provider of railway driveline, chassis, and digital solutions like connect@rail.
