Royal Enfield launched the Guerrilla 450 with prices ranging between Rs 2.39 lakh and Rs 2.54 lakh (ex-showroom, Chennai). Powering the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 is the same liquid-cooled, 452cc, ‘Sherpa 450’ motor that does duty in the Himalayan. In the Guerrilla 450, it develops 40hp at 8,000rpm and 40 Nm at 5,500rpm, the same as the Himalayan albeit Royal Enfield says the tuning and gearing is different here and done to suit the character of the Guerrilla.
The Guerrilla’s chassis is also quite like the Himalayan’s. The engine still is a stressed member of the main frame although the subframe is different here. The Guerrilla also trades in the Himalayan’s USD fork for a gaitered telescopic unit, but it continues with a monoshock to handle rear suspension duties. Disc brakes at both ends handle stopping duties and are supplemented by dual-channel ABS. At 310mm, the front disc is 10mm smaller on the Guerrilla than the Himalayan while both bikes get a 270mm rear rotor.
Despite all the similarities, at 185kg, the Guerrilla 450 is a whole 11kg lighter than the Himalayan. The 11-litre fuel tank as well as the smaller 17-inch alloy wheels – running tubeless tyres – are big factors in this weight loss. Speaking of tubeless tyres, the Guerrilla runs on Ceat tyres sized 120/70-R17 (front) and 160/60-R17 (rear). These are the fattest tyres ever fitted to a made-in-India motorcycle.
The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 can be had in three variants – Analog, Dash and Flash. The Analog variant comes with a sedate colour palette of grey and black with a few colourful accents, while the Dash and Flash variants are decidedly flashier. A total of five colour options are available on the new Guerrilla.
What is the bigger difference, however, is that the Guerrilla’s base Analog variant comes with a digi-analogue display (like the Super Meteor 650) with a supplementary Tripper navigation pod. The higher variants meanwhile ship with the TFT dash (same as the Himalayan) and come with all the connectivity features seen on Royal Enfield’s adventure bike. As with every Royal Enfield that has come before it, the Guerrilla 450 will come with a myriad of accessories straight from the company.
The base Analogue variant of the Guerrilla is priced at Rs 2.39lakh, with the mid Dash variant commanding Rs 2.49 lakh. The top Flash variant has an asking price of Rs 2.54 lakh. The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 will go up against the Triumph Speed 400 (Rs 2.34 lakh), Honda CB300R (Rs 2.40 lakh) and Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 (Rs 2.92 lakh) in the Indian market.
