ZELIO Ebikes has ventured into the e-rickshaw market with the launch of its debut models, the Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS. Priced at INR 1,45,000 for the Tanga Butterfly and INR 1,40,000 for the Tanga SS (ex-showroom), these models were first unveiled at the EV India Expo 2024 in New Delhi.
The Tanga Butterfly, built with mild steel (MS), and the Tanga SS, made from stainless steel (SS), signal ZELIO’s entry into the shared mobility sector. Both models are designed for urban and semi-urban commuters, addressing the rising demand for last-mile connectivity in India.
Featuring a top speed of 30 km/h and a range of 100 km per charge, both e-rickshaws are powered by a 1200W motor and a 48/60V 135Ah Eastman battery, which requires approximately eight hours to fully charge. They also come equipped with an SMPS charger offering voltage fluctuation protection.
The Tanga Butterfly will be available in Red, Grey, White, Sky Blue, and Military Green, while the Tanga SS will come in Blue, Red, Sea Blue, Parrot Green, and Grey.
Commenting on the launch, Kunal Arya, Co-Founder and Managing Director of ZELIO Ebikes, stated that entering the e-rickshaw segment aligns with the company’s goal of contributing to India’s electric mobility ecosystem. He emphasized that the Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS are designed with a strong focus on safety, performance, and affordability, ensuring they cater to a broad range of customers.
In terms of safety and comfort, both models are equipped with advanced braking systems, including a front lever-operated drum brake, a rear paddle-operated drum brake, and a hand lever-operated parking brake. To enhance ride quality, the front suspension features 43mm telescopic hydraulic shockers, while the rear suspension utilizes leaf spring shockers. The e-rickshaws are also fitted with TVS-made 3.75-12 mm tires on both the front and rear wheels.
The chassis is built with a high-rigidity monocoque frame. With a wheelbase of 2030 mm, a length of 2690 mm, width of 1000 mm, height of 1710 mm, and a ground clearance of 200 mm, the models are designed to navigate urban and semi-urban roads with ease.
Additional features include a wide front glass with a wiper, LED headlamps with DRL, LED cabin lighting, and LED indicators. For passenger and driver convenience, the models come with a digital meter, FM radio with dual speakers, heavy curtains, a bottle holder, a cash pocket, and central locking. Accessories such as a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, tool kit, and jack are also included.
