Godrej launches India’s first MultiIon Battery Technology for Electric Forklifts

The company said the new battery technology has been developed to address rising demand for efficient, reliable, and sustainable energy systems across manufacturing, warehousing, and supply chain operations.

Godrej Enterprises Group has introduced India’s first MultiIon battery technology for electric forklifts through its Material Handling Equipment (MHE) business, aiming to address the growing demand for efficient, reliable, and sustainable energy solutions across the country’s rapidly expanding manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics sectors.

The company said the new battery technology is designed to deliver 25% lower total cost of ownership, improved equipment uptime, and cleaner industrial operations. Built to last for the full operational life of a forklift, the MultiIon battery is expected to help businesses reduce long-term operating and replacement costs.

The launch comes amid strong growth in India’s industrial and warehousing sector. According to the company, the market recorded over 11 million sq. ft. of leasing activity across the top eight Indian cities during the first quarter of 2026, driven by increasing demand from third-party logistics providers, e-commerce companies, and manufacturing-led supply chain modernisation initiatives.

As warehouse operations become denser and supply chains more throughput-intensive, the demand for energy-efficient, safe, and future-ready material handling solutions is rising rapidly.

Godrej said the MultiIon battery combines fast and opportunity charging capabilities with zero maintenance and high energy efficiency. The technology also eliminates rare-earth dependency while reducing battery disposal challenges.

Developed in collaboration with one of India’s leading deep-tech battery innovators, the MultiIon battery delivers up to 5,000 life cycles — nearly 60% higher than conventional lithium-ion batteries. According to the company, this extended lifecycle allows the battery to last throughout the operational lifespan of the forklift, significantly lowering long-term ownership costs.

The battery system has also been engineered to perform efficiently in ambient temperatures above 45°C, making it suitable for India’s tropical climate conditions and demanding industrial environments.

Anil Lingayat said, “As India’s supply chains scale in complexity and intensity, material handling requires energy solutions that deliver reliability, long-term value, and sustainability. With MultiIon battery technology, we are rethinking how industrial equipment is powered, enabling higher uptime, lower ownership costs, and cleaner operations across the value chain, including MSMEs.”

He added that the launch reflects the company’s continued focus on design-led innovation, advanced engineering, R&D, and technology-driven product development for India’s evolving logistics ecosystem.

Godrej Enterprises Group stated that the MultiIon battery technology has undergone more than 5,000 hours of real-world validation testing and will be offered with a seven-year warranty, further reinforcing its focus on durability, reliability, and long-term industrial performance.
