Hyundai Motor Group leads 2025 IIHS Top Safety Awards with most recognized models

Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis lead the industry with the most TSP and TSP+ ratings for the second year in a row, earning recognition for outstanding rear occupant protection under the IIHS's enhanced 2025 safety standards.

Hyundai Motor Group has once again demonstrated its commitment to vehicle safety by securing the highest number of accolades in the 2025 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash test evaluations. A total of 15 models from Hyundai Motor Company, Kia Corporation, and Genesis have been honored with either the 2025 TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP) or the TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) awards.

This includes seven Hyundai models, five Genesis vehicles, and three from Kia — reinforcing the Group’s leadership in automotive safety for the second consecutive year.

In the latest round of evaluations, the 2025 Hyundai ELANTRA, SONATA and 2025 Kia K4, were awarded the coveted TSP+ rating, joining existing models such as the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, KONA, TUCSON, and SANTA FE; the Genesis GV60, Electrified GV70, GV70, GV80; and the 2025 Kia EV9 and Telluride. The 2025 Genesis G90 currently holds a TSP rating.

For 2025, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has raised the bar with tougher crash test criteria, placing greater emphasis on second-row occupant protection. The updated moderate overlap front test now includes rear-seat dummies representing 12-year-old children or small adult females, providing a more realistic assessment of injury risk.

To earn a 2025 TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) rating, vehicles must achieve a “good” rating in this revised test, while a minimum of “acceptable” is required for the TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP) designation.

Additional requirements for both TSP and TSP+ include:

  • “Good” ratings in the small overlap front and updated side impact crash tests
  • At least an “acceptable” rating in both daytime and nighttime pedestrian front crash prevention tests
  • Standard headlights rated “acceptable” or better across all trims

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is an independent, nonprofit scientific and educational organization dedicated to reducing deaths, injuries and property damage from motor vehicle crashes through research and evaluation and through education of consumers, policymakers and safety professionals. Its TSP and TSP+ ratings are widely cited in the North American auto industry by consumers, media and analysts alike.
