MAHLE recognized for Excellence in Environmental and Climate Protection

The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) has awarded MAHLE an “A” rating in the “Climate Protection” category, recognizing the Group’s continuous efforts and strong results in environmental and climate protection. For the first time, MAHLE has been classified in the “Leadership” category. The company is making significant progress in reducing its Scope 1, 2, and 3 CO₂ emissions.

The non-profit Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) has acknowledged the MAHLE Group for its consistent efforts and strong performance in environmental and climate protection. In the 2024 CDP assessment, MAHLE earned an “A” rating for climate protection (“Climate Change”) and improved its water security score to “A-” from the previous year. This achievement places MAHLE among the top-ranked companies in the “Leadership” category.

“This outstanding rating is a testament to the successful execution of our sustainability strategy and serves as an important signal to our customers, business partners, investors, and employees,” said Georg Dietz, Member of the Management Board of the MAHLE Group, responsible for sustainability, health, occupational safety, and environmental management.

According to CDP’s assessment methodology, companies that have been rated with the grade “A” stand out as leaders in climate protection. Their actions demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the risks and opportunities associated with climate change.

Compared to the base year of 2019, MAHLE has reduced CO2 emissions from the energy consumption of its plants (Scope 1 and 2 emissions) by 47 percent and from the upstream chain and product usage phase (Scope 3) by 17 percent. “Our great progress in climate protection was made possible by integrating the latest technologies, optimizing internal processes to save energy, using renewable energies, and replacing fossil fuels with electricity,” said Kathrin Apel, Director Corporate Sustainability and Occupational Health, Safety and Environment at MAHLE. “We are also working with our suppliers to continuously reduce emissions from our products. In product design, we focus on the use of more recycled and bio-based materials.”

MAHLE has made climate protection a core strategic goal, viewing the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement targets not only as a responsibility but also as an opportunity to enhance its industry leadership and drive innovation.

The Group aims to achieve climate neutrality across its plants by 2040. Additionally, MAHLE has set a target to reduce Scope 3 emissions—those from purchased goods, services, and product use—by 28% by 2030. Since 2021, the company’s energy and emissions data have been externally audited to ensure transparency and accountability.
