Suzuki Motor Corporation, the parent company of Maruti Suzuki India, has introduced the fourth-generation Swift at the Tokyo Motor Show 2023 (Japan Mobility Show 2023). Although currently labeled as a concept, this new model is anticipated to grace the Indian market in 2024.
The Swift has been a consistent chart-topper for Maruti, boasting impressive sales figures in India. In FY24 (April-September), it achieved sales of 103,000 units, outperforming both the Baleno and the WagonR. In the preceding fiscal year (FY23), it ranked as the fourth best-selling car, with 177,000 units sold, and held the second position in FY22 with 168,000 units sold.
The latest Swift version showcases a redesigned front end, including a new grille, headlamps, and bumper, along with fresh alloy wheels. The design leans towards a performance-oriented aesthetic. Furthermore, it boasts advanced safety technologies like dual sensor brake support, an adaptive high beam system, and a driver monitoring system. The interior has undergone a transformation with a new dashboard layout, an updated infotainment system, a revised automatic climate control panel, and a modern instrument cluster.
The current India-spec Swift is powered by a 1.2-litre K-Series Dual-Jet Dual-VVT petrol engine that delivers 90hp of maximum power and 113Nm of peak torque. It offers two transmission options – a 5-speed manual transmission (MT) and a 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT). Additionally, it comes with a CNG option. These powertrain options are expected to carry over to the 2024 Swift.
Presently, the Swift’s pricing in India ranges from Rs 5,99,450 to Rs 9,03,000 (ex-showroom). However, with the arrival of the new Swift in 2024, prices are anticipated to see an increase.
