Goodyear proudly celebrates 45 years of its iconic ultra-high-performance Eagle tire line. A symbol of excellence both on and off the track, Eagle tires blend Goodyear’s rich motorsport heritage with cutting-edge performance for sports cars.
The legacy continues with the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6, a top seller in Europe and Asia, now making its mark in the Americas. Evolving from the racetrack to the streets, each Eagle model embodies decades of innovation, shaping motorsport history while equipping some of the world’s most coveted sports cars.
Goodyear Eagle: A Legacy Born on the Track, Built for the Road
The Goodyear Eagle name became synonymous with motorsports in 1980 when the company merged its racing and high-performance consumer tire branding. By leveraging racing technology, Goodyear launched the first official Eagle road tire in 1981, followed by the Eagle VR50, designed for high-speed European roads.
Eagle tires quickly gained popularity, becoming original equipment for performance cars like the Chevrolet Corvette and Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. The Eagle GT even appeared on Doc Brown’s DeLorean in Back to the Future. Over the decades, the Eagle name has remained a hallmark of Goodyear’s racing heritage and high-performance innovation, continuing to shape the industry today.
Eagle F1: Pushing Performance Boundaries
In 1992, Goodyear developed the Eagle F1 tire for the McLaren F1, the world’s fastest production car at the time, highlighting its role as a crucial suspension element. Inspired by the VR50’s success, Goodyear introduced the Eagle F1 GS-D2 in 1994 and the GS-D3 in 2000, maintaining a directional tread for optimal dry and wet performance.
As performance cars evolved with greater power and weight, Goodyear adapted with the Eagle F1 Asymmetric in 2007. Its innovative design enhanced grip and handling while preserving the brand’s signature wet-weather capabilities.
Eagle F1: Advancing Performance for Road and Track
In 2019, Goodyear elevated its Eagle lineup with the Eagle F1 SuperSport range, designed for ultimate road and track performance. Evolving through generations, the latest Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 meets modern noise, emissions, and EV demands while maintaining the brand’s signature performance.
Eagle F1 tires remain the choice for top manufacturers, featuring on models like the Lotus Emira, Porsche Macan 4 Electric, and BMW 1 Series. The SuperSport RS, developed with Porsche, equips high-performance RS models, while the new Ferrari 12Cilindri continues Goodyear’s four-decade partnership with Ferrari.
