At CHINAPLAS 2025, BASF will highlight its expertise in polyurethanes (PU) with a range of innovative solutions. A key focus will be its groundbreaking PU recycling technology, showcased as a flagship advancement at the event. Under the ‘Loop’ initiative, BASF introduces a new lineup of PU products featuring recycled content, designed for applications in the footwear, automotive, and synthetic leather industries.
The process begins with BASF’s recyclable PU systems, where waste is repurposed as a valuable resource, turning the end into a new beginning. At a dedicated facility, the waste is carefully segregated and shredded before undergoing BASF’s patented PU recycling technology. This advanced process leverages sophisticated liquification techniques to convert polyurethane products into high-quality recycled materials that meet industry standards and offer strong commercial viability. Ultimately, these recycled raw materials are used to produce new PU products, bringing the ‘Loop’ concept to life for polyurethanes.
“PU have traditionally been difficult to recycle. Over the past several years, we have made significant investments to develop this PU recycling technology. It is not only a significant advancement in technology, but also sustainable management of PU materials,” said Silvia Mok, Vice President, Business Management PU Systems, Performance Materials Asia Pacific, BASF. “Recyclable PU Systems ‘Loop’ is a testament of our commitment to innovation in recycling and our focus on creating value from waste generated across the value chains. We will extend its application to a variety of industries including furniture, construction and household appliances in the future”.
At CHINAPLAS 2025, BASF will demonstrate its potential to reshape the PU landscape.
