The BMW Group has reached a major electrification milestone with the production of its two-millionth all-electric vehicle. The landmark model, a BMW i5 M60 xDrive sedan finished in Tanzanite Blue, was assembled at the company’s Dingolfing plant in Germany and is destined for a customer in Spain.
BMW Group says the achievement highlights the rapid expansion of its global electric mobility strategy while reinforcing its technology-open manufacturing approach.
Dingolfing emerges as BMW Group’s EV production hub
The Dingolfing plant began series production of all-electric vehicles in 2021 with the launch of the BMW iX. Today, the facility manufactures the broadest range of battery-electric models within the BMW Group portfolio, including the BMW iX, BMW i5 sedan and Touring, and the BMW i7.
Since 2021, the Lower Bavarian facility has produced more than 320,000 fully electric vehicles, accounting for nearly one-sixth of the BMW Group’s total BEV output. In 2025, over 25% of all vehicles built at Plant Dingolfing were all-electric.
Flexible production strategy remains central
Under its BMW iFACTORY production strategy, the BMW Group continues to follow a technology-open manufacturing model, enabling vehicles with different powertrains to be produced flexibly on a single assembly line.
The company noted that every German BMW Group plant has been producing at least one all-electric model for several years, making e-mobility a core element of its manufacturing network.
BMW Group added that its growing EV production footprint is contributing significantly to Germany’s position as the world’s second-largest production hub for electric vehicles.
