Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Samagra Shikshana Karnataka, under the Department of School Education and Literacy, Government of Karnataka. This partnership aims to enhance vocational education for students in Grades 9 to 12, focusing on the automobile sector.
Through this initiative, TKM seeks to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements by providing students with practical, hands-on training in automotive technology. The collaboration is expected to equip students with essential skills, preparing them for future employment opportunities while fostering their overall development. It also supports the broader goal of building a skilled and responsible workforce for the future.
Under this partnership, the program will be implemented in eight government schools across seven districts of Karnataka, benefitting more than 800 students. The identified schools include Kudur and Kanakapura (Bengaluru South), Peenya (Bengaluru Urban), Bagepalli (Chikkaballapur), Byadagi (Haveri), Harapanahalli (Vijayanagara), Turvihal (Raichur), and Haliyal (Uttara Kannada).
The MoU was signed in the presence of Ms. K. Vidya Kumari, IAS, State Project Director, Samagra Shikshana Karnataka, Mr. MR Maruti, KAS, Director (Quality), SSK and Mr. A. Ramesh Rao, Vice President, External Affairs-Karnataka & Corporate Social Responsibility, Toyota Kirloskar Motor.
The collaboration focuses on developing both teachers and students. A comprehensive Train-the-Trainer program will build the capacity of faculty members and provide them exposure to Toyota’s world-class manufacturing and learning practices. TKM will also establish automobile skill laboratories in the partner schools to impart practical, industry-relevant knowledge. In addition, students will gain real-world exposure to industrial environments and Toyota’s best practices, fostering discipline, a strong safety mindset and respect for people.
Commenting on the occasion, G. Shankara, Executive Vice President, Finance and Administration, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, “We are privileged to collaborate with the Government of Karnataka to strengthen and enhance vocational education in the automobile sector.
