Industry 5.0-enabled manufacturing
Maruti Suzuki’s Kharkhoda manufacturing plant has been developed as a Suzuki Smart Factory, incorporating advanced digital technologies that enable real-time monitoring of operations to improve safety, quality, and productivity while reducing energy consumption across manufacturing processes.
The facility also embraces Industry 5.0 principles through the deployment of human-aware collaborative robots (COBOTS), enabling seamless collaboration between humans and machines to achieve world-class manufacturing standards and operational excellence.
Powered by Renewable Energy
The Kharkhoda plant meets 100% of its electricity requirements through renewable energy, combining solar power with green power procurement. It currently has an installed solar capacity of 20 MWp, which is planned to increase to 70 MWp by 2030. To further strengthen its sustainability efforts, the company is also setting up a 10-tonne-per-day biogas plant and a 1 MWh Battery Energy Storage System.
Zero Liquid Discharge Plant
The facility operates as a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) plant, ensuring complete recycling of wastewater. Nearly two-thirds of its water requirement is met through recycled water and rainwater harvesting, reflecting Maruti Suzuki’s focus on efficient water management and environmental sustainability.
To improve logistics and reduce fuel consumption in vehicle transportation, the company will establish an in-plant railway siding at the Kharkhoda facility, similar to those already operating at its Manesar (Haryana) and Hansalpur (Gujarat) manufacturing plants.
Community Development Initiatives
Under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, Maruti Suzuki is implementing community development projects across 10 villages surrounding the Kharkhoda facility. The initiatives focus on education, healthcare, sanitation, and community infrastructure, and are being carried out in consultation with local community leaders.
Building a Skilled Workforce
As part of a joint initiative between the Governments of India and Japan, Maruti Suzuki has established four Japan-India Institutes for Manufacturing (JIMs) to develop a skilled workforce for the manufacturing sector. Since their inception, these institutes have trained more than 2,600 students. Looking ahead, the company plans to construct student hostel facilities at its JIM campuses in Sonipat and Manesar to support residential training and further strengthen skill development.
