GoldSeal-SaarGummi India Pvt. Ltd. (GSSG) marked a significant milestone on 24 September 2026 with the inauguration of its new manufacturing facility in Chennai. The development comes as the company enters the 29th year of its joint venture operations in India with Gold Seal of India and SaarGummi of Germany, global players in automotive sealing systems.
Established in 1997, GSSG has built a strong presence in the automotive sealing solutions segment, traditionally focusing on EPDM rubber products. With four locations across India, the company manufactures a broad portfolio of weatherstrips and sealing products for passenger vehicles, three-wheelers and commercial vehicles, helping protect vehicle occupants from external elements.
Backed by SaarGummi’s global expertise, GSSG supplies sealing solutions to several leading automotive manufacturers, including Škoda Volkswagen, Hyundai, Mahindra, MG Motor, Bajaj, John Deere and TVS, among others.
The inauguration of the new Chennai facility marks GSSG’s expansion beyond rubber into thermoplastic sealing solutions. Spread across more than 70,000 sq ft, the facility is equipped with advanced TPV extrusion and moulding technologies sourced from SaarGummi’s globally established supplier network.
The company has invested more than ₹22 crore in the new facility, strengthening its ability to serve OEM requirements across both rubber and thermoplastic sealing applications. The expansion is aimed at positioning GSSG as a more comprehensive sealing solutions supplier as demand for advanced automotive sealing technologies continues to grow.
The Chennai facility will initially manufacture Glass Run Channels using four different materials through 4K extrusion technology. The company also plans to introduce a range of sunroof seals, manufactured to tight tolerances to meet the demanding requirements of modern sunroof systems and India’s varied weather conditions.
GSSG will use PE splicing technology for these sunroof seals, making it one of the few sealing-system suppliers in India to offer the technology for the domestic automotive market.
The development of the Chennai facility has incorporated manufacturing expertise and processes from SaarGummi operations across Spain, Germany, China and other global locations. This global knowledge base has been integrated into the facility’s industrialisation and production processes to support consistent quality and advanced manufacturing capabilities.
With its new Chennai facility, GoldSeal-SaarGummi India aims to expand its product portfolio, strengthen its capabilities in thermoplastic applications and provide OEMs with a wider range of locally manufactured automotive sealing solutions.
The portfolio expansion and capital investment are not limited to Chennai. GoldSeal-SaarGummi India Pvt. Ltd. (GSSG) is also undertaking significant capacity and capability enhancements at its manufacturing facilities in Daman and Ahmedabad as part of its broader growth strategy.
At its Sanand facility in Ahmedabad, which currently supplies products to Mahindra, MG Motor and Ashok Leyland, the company is preparing to add TPV moulding and finishing capabilities within the next six months. The facility is also developing new products specifically for Hyundai, which will mark GSSG’s first supply to the automaker’s new manufacturing facility in Pune.
Meanwhile, GSSG’s largest and oldest manufacturing facility in Daman will play a key role in enhancing the company’s capabilities for European OEMs, with Škoda and Volkswagen among its key customers.
An expansion of the Daman facility is currently underway, with the company planning to manufacture hidden-frame glass run channels designed for the latest-generation body-in-white (BIW) and door-panel applications. These solutions are aimed at delivering a more premium appearance and enhanced finish to vehicle interiors and exteriors.
The Daman expansion is targeted for completion by the end of 2027, with an investment of more than ₹32 crore. The project is expected to further strengthen GSSG’s manufacturing capabilities and support the company’s growing portfolio of advanced sealing solutions for both domestic and European automotive applications.
GSSG is also evaluating the introduction of advanced sealing solutions from its global operations, including flush seals, frameless seals and other premium products widely used in European coupes and convertibles.
Sustainability is another key focus for the company. After scoring 90% in Hyundai K-Mobility’s ESG audit, GSSG aims to reduce energy intensity and water consumption by more than 20% by 2030 across its three plants. The company is also focusing on carbon neutrality, recyclable materials and lightweighting technologies to support the evolving requirements of next-generation EVs.
Supporting GSSG’s three manufacturing plants is its Design Centre in Mumbai, which works closely with three other SaarGummi global centres on advanced design concepts, innovative production processes and next-generation materials. With a team of more than 14 engineers trained and experienced across SaarGummi facilities worldwide, the centre focuses on localising global technologies for Indian conditions, delivering high-performance sealing solutions with optimised NVH performance at competitive costs.
The inauguration was attended by Mr. Sundar, Vice President – Procurement, Hyundai Motor India, who reviewed GSSG’s latest technologies and upcoming projects. In his address, he highlighted the future of the automotive industry and the important role of sealing solutions in delivering a premium passenger-vehicle experience.
Members of the SaarGummi-Germany Board also attended the event, including David Lettin, Board Director; Tomas Slanina, CFO; and Michel Werle, Marketing. The joint-venture partners praised GSSG’s innovative approach to developing next-generation sealing solutions.
The event was attended by OEM, aftermarket and export customers and concluded with a lunch.
On the same day, Gold Seal Engineering Products Pvt. Ltd. received the Top Domestic Sales Award, while GoldSeal-SaarGummi India Pvt. Ltd. won the Export Merit Award for 2025–26 from the All India Rubber Industries Association (AIRIA) at its AGM in New Delhi.
