Global automotive supplier Magna has inaugurated a manufacturing facility in Chakan, Maharashtra, to produce latches and mirrors for carmakers in western India. The 65,000 sq. ft. plant is expected to generate over 300 jobs within the next three years.

Jeff Hunt, President of Magna MML (Mechatronics, Mirrors, and Lighting), officially opened the facility on Wednesday with a traditional ceremony, including a puja, ribbon-cutting, and plaque unveiling.

“Our commitment to innovation and operational excellence enables us to meet the evolving needs of our customers, delivering high-quality products that shape the future of mobility,” Hunt said at the event.

Magna’s expansion in Maharashtra aligns with the growing trend of global automotive suppliers strengthening their footprint in India to meet rising demand from car manufacturers. According to the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), the country’s automotive component industry recorded a turnover of ₹5.6 trillion in FY23.

Founded in 1957, Magna is one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers, with over 170,000 employees globally. It designs and manufactures automotive systems, assemblies, modules, and components for carmakers worldwide. The Chakan industrial area, near Pune, is a key location for automotive suppliers, hosting major companies like Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, and Mahindra & Mahindra.
