Royal Enfield, a leading global brand in the mid-size motorcycle segment, has officially opened its first fully owned CKD (completely knocked down) assembly plant outside India, located in Samut Prakan, Bangkok. This new facility underscores the brand’s dedication to the Thai market and the broader Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.
B Govindarajan, CEO of Royal Enfield, emphasized the brand’s focus on expanding the middleweight motorcycle segment worldwide. “We’ve seen tremendous interest from international markets for motorcycles that are not only accessible but also a unique expression of personal style. Our global strategy involves investing in high-potential markets, and the Thailand assembly plant is a key part of this vision,” he said.
The Thai plant is Royal Enfield’s sixth CKD assembly unit globally, joining existing plants in Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Bangladesh, and Nepal. With a state-of-the-art 57,000 sq. ft. facility and a capacity of over 30,000 units annually, the plant is designed to meet increasing demand in Thailand and expand to neighboring markets in the future.
Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Royal Enfield’s CCO, noted, “The Asia-Pacific region offers significant growth potential for the mid-size segment, and being closer to these markets is a strategic priority to fuel our business growth.”
Thailand has proven to be a crucial market for Royal Enfield, with the brand experiencing a 150% growth since entering the country. Anuj Dua, Head of Asia Pacific Business, highlighted the steady growth trajectory in Thailand, noting that the country’s diverse culture, topography, and conditions are perfect for Royal Enfield motorcycles. “Our progress in Thailand—across network, customers, community, and product portfolio—has been extremely encouraging,” Dua said.
The new plant will also house Royal Enfield’s first-ever dedicated Power Train experiential training center in the APAC region, aiming to provide dealers and employees with in-depth technical knowledge, enhancing both customer experience and community engagement.
Initially serving the local market, the Thai facility will eventually expand its operations across the APAC region in phases. The plant is expected to improve delivery efficiency and flexibility, reinforcing Royal Enfield’s leadership in the mid-size motorcycle segment.
Royal Enfield’s premium lineup includes models like the Flying Flea electric vehicle brand (featuring the Classic-styled Flying Flea C6 and Scrambler-styled Flying Flea S6), Bear 650, Classic 650, Guerrilla 450 modern roadster, Hunter 350, Meteor 350, Super Meteor 650, Interceptor 650, Continental GT 650 twins, Shotgun 650, the new Himalayan adventure tourer, Scram 411 ADV Crossover, and the iconic Bullet 350 and Classic 350.
